• Cannelton Elementary registration approaching, classes begin Aug. 11

    CANNELTON – Registration for Cannelton Elementary students for grades prekindergarten through fifth grade will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3 and from 1 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, at Myers Grade School cafeteria.

    A back-to-school kids’ fest for students entering prekindergarten to fifth grade only will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, in the William Bennett Early Learning Center at 411 Washington St. in Cannelton.

    A parent or guardian is required to accompany any student registering. Students do not need to be present to register.

    INDIANAPOLIS – Students entering prekindergarten must have: 3 Hepatitis B; 4 DTaP (Diphtheria, Tetanus and Pertussis); 3 Polio (IPV or OPV); 1 MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) and 1 Varicella (chickenpox).

    Students entering kindergarten must have 3 Hepatitis B; 5 DTaP (Diphtheria, Tetanus and Pertussis); 4 Polio (IPV or OPV); 2 MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) and 2 Varicella (chickenpox).

    LEOPOLD - Perry Central Elementary has named the following students to the honor roll for the last nine weeks of the 2014-2015 school year.

  • Open house Thursday, July 9 at OCU Rockport campus

    ROCKPORT – Oakland City University’s Rockport campus will host an open house from noon to 4 p.m. Thursday, July 9. The campus is located at 954 N. State Road 66. Students can learn more about degree programs, including associate’s and bachelor’s degrees, Masters in Business Administration and strategic management programs.   • Glory Bees Preschool accepting applications

    TELL CITY – Glory Bees Preschool is accepting applications for the 2015-16 school year. A Christian preschool, Glory Bees uses hands-on learning centers based on weekly themes.

    Bible stories, manners, Christian character development and social skills are incorporated into the curriculum along with kindergarten-readiness skills, science, art, music and physical education.

    Glory Bees offers two classes. The five-day class meets Monday through Friday from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuition is $75 a month.

  • Ariel Etienne earns degree, begins career with Textron

    TELL CITY – Ariel Elizabeth Etienne graduated May 17 from the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering.

    During her college career, Ariel participated in the University of Notre Dame marching band, concert band, Symphonic Winds and women and men’s basketball bands.

    She volunteered with Band Link, a band-instrument tutoring program for children. As a musician with the band, Ariel performed in Italy, France, Spain, New Zealand, Australia, Croatia and Slovenia.

  • Jennings awarded Arnold F. Habig Scholarship

    TELL CITY – Gage Jennings of Tell City was recently awarded a $1,000 Arnold F. Habig Scholarship from the Vincennes University Foundation, renewable for two years.

    Jennings is currently studying nursing at Vincennes University Jasper Campus and is a 2014 graduate of Tell City High School.

    He is the son of Tara Garcia of Tell City and the late Jason Jennings, and the grandson of Geoff and Betty Jennings and David Greene, all of Tell City.

  • Miller earns IU Southeast chancellor’s list honor

    TELL CITY – Reese Michael Miller of Tell City was recently honored for his academic achievement.

    Miller was named to the 2015 spring semester chancellor’s list at Indiana University Southeast.

    He is the son of Jeff and Michelle Miller of Tell City.

    Miller is a 2014 graduate of Tell City Junior Senior High School, where he served as class salutatorian during the commencement ceremony.
