  • SonShine Early Learning to mark 10-year anniversary

    TELL CITY – St. John’s Lutheran church will celebrate an important milestone soon.

    The church’s SonShine Early Learning Ministry daycare and preschool will celebrate its 10-year anniversary. The center will host a week-long celebration beginning Monday, Aug. 3, with various activities for the children and their families.

    There will be a celebration Aug. 9 at St. John’s Lutheran Church.

  • Perry Central back to school cookout set for Thursday

    LEOPOLD – The annual Perry Central back-to-school cookout will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 30.

    Families are invited to come meet student’s new teachers and visit the many school readiness booths sponsored by school and community groups in the school cafetorium.

    There will be entertainment by the Perry Central band and cheerleaders, prize registrations, giveaways and bus rides for new preschoolers and kindergarteners. Free hot dogs and drinks will also be served.

  • Stepping Stones now enrolling for 3-year-old class

    LEOPOLD – Stepping Stones Preschool is accepting registrations for students in the 3-year-old preschool class for the 2015-16 school year beginning Monday, Aug. 31.

    Students 3 years old have an option of attending classes from 8 to 11:30 a.m. Monday and Wednesday for $65 per month or Monday, Wednesday and Thursday for $80 per month. Children must be 3 years old by December 2015 and must be fully potty trained. Extended childcare hours, from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m., will be available for an additional fee.

  • United Way’s Stuff the Bus drive July 24-25

    PERRY COUNTY – Un-ited Way of Perry County will again sponsor its annual Stuff the Bus school supply drive for area students in need.

    United Way, Wal-Mart and local businesses, organizations, retailers and area volunteers are partnering to collect donations of much-needed school supplies for all Perry County school corporations, Perry County Head Start and North Spencer Schools.  Last year’s two-day event gathered more than 4,000 items valued at approximately $3,145. 

  • Old National launches ‘Tools For Schools’

    EVANSVILLE – In collaboration with area homeless-youth-education programs, Old National Bank has launched a corporate-wide annual “Tools for Schools” campaign as a community-wide collection drive of school supplies for disadvantaged youth in grades kindergarten through 12.

    This campaign will help ensure all children will have basic supplies during the upcoming school year.

    The campaign will run through Friday, July 24, and donations can be left at any of Old National’s banking centers during normal business hours.

    No Trapper Keepers or wheels on backpacks will be allowed.


    • One backpack, one roll of paper towels, one two-pocket folder, 2 boxes Crayola brand markers, one box of Crayola crayons, one box of quart or gallon resealable bags, one supply box or bag, a change of clothes in a resealable bag, one hardback 3-ring binder, one pack assorted-color construction paper, a two-pack of glue sticks, one set of washable paints in a hard case and one pair of Fiskars brand children’s scissors.


  • Cannelton Elementary registration approaching, classes begin Aug. 11

    CANNELTON – Registration for Cannelton Elementary students for grades prekindergarten through fifth grade will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3 and from 1 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, at Myers Grade School cafeteria.

    A back-to-school kids’ fest for students entering prekindergarten to fifth grade only will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, in the William Bennett Early Learning Center at 411 Washington St. in Cannelton.

    A parent or guardian is required to accompany any student registering. Students do not need to be present to register.
