  • Daughters of Isabella awards scholarships

    PERRY COUNTY – The Daughters of Isabella, Nativity Circle 710 have awarded $500 scholarships to graduates Mary Steen and Aaron Lutgring.

    These scholarships are based on financial need, academics, grade point average, rank in class, college attending and extra curricular activities.

    The applicants must have a member of the local circle as a mother or grandmother.

    LEOPOLD – Perry Central Junior-Senior High School has released its honor roll for the fourth nine weeks of the 2015-16 school year.

    TELL CITY – Experts say grit – the character trait that encompasses persistence, determination and resilience – is a stronger predictor of college success than a student’s SAT score, IQ or high-school GPA. Another big part of a student’s success is having what’s known as a growth mindset. That includes the ability to embrace challenges, learn from criticism and find lessons in others’ successes.

  • 21st Century Scholar Program enrollment underway

    INDIANA – Congratulations to the Class of 2016 on all of your accomplishments. The hard work and dedication our students, teachers and administrators have shown to get to this point is something to be celebrated and recognized. Graduation season can also serve as a great reminder that it is never too early to start planning for college. The Indiana 21st Century Scholars program was established to help students from low-income families achieve their goal of going to college.

    Arnold Mulzer Memorial Scholarship, Logan Northener, $500.

    21st Century Scholar, Logan Nugent, Paige Reynolds, Adam Terry and Jordyn Vogt, tuition renewable.

    Vincennes University Scholarship, Logan Nugent, $1,250.

    American Legion Post 142 Scholarship, Logan Nugent, $500.

  • Tell City native graduates from Vincennes with honors

    VINCENNES – Stephanie Robinson Mayfield, of Tell City, graduated Saturday, May 7, an Associate of Science Nursing from Vincennes University with cum laude honors. She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society and is currently completing her Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

    Mayfield is a graduate of Perry Central High School and the daughter of Tracey Dwiggins of Ohio and the late Toni Robinson.

    She is the granddaughter of Loretta and Robert Dwiggins of Ohio.

    Mayfield and her husband, David, have a five-year-old daughter, Arianna.

  • Tell City seniors awarded scholarships

    TELL CITY – Tell City High School graduates who received scholarships and other academic honors were recognized during a ceremony Sunday, May 21, in the school auditorium.

    Students earned scholarships with a combined value of nearly $1.5 million.

    Awards are listed by name, amount (when given) and recipient.

    Hughes Owen Memorial Scholarship, Jarrett Hawhee and Gant Miller, $5,200 a year renewable for four years.

    LEOPOLD – Perry Central High School seniors were honored Monday, May 16, during the school’s annual scholarship awards night May 16. Scholarships valued at more than $1.1 million were awarded.
