  • Perry Central students honored for grade improvements

    LEOPOLD – Perry Central Elementary is using the Acuity test to assess student strengths and weaknesses in regards to the grade level standards in order to help teachers guide classroom and individualized instruction. This assessment has been given twice and the window to begin this assessment again opens Feb. 7.

  • Early Head Start children visit with family

    Lincoln Hills Development Corp. Early Head Start children and their families enjoy a day out together recently participating in different activities.

    Early Head Start participants meet weekly for home visits and twice monthly for playtime, education and family activities.     Health fair at TCJSHS
    TELL CITY – Tell City Junior-Senior High School will host a school-wide, community health fair from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday in the school’s auxiliary gym.
    The community is invited to attend. There will be a variety of activities for everyone to participate in.

    Renaissance yard sale March 9
    TELL CITY – The Tell City Junior-Senior High School Renaissance yard sale will be held from 6 a.m. until noon March 9 in the Bryan Taylor Sports Arena.

  • Kohl’s Cares scholarship accepting nominations

    PERRY COUNTY – The Kohl’s Department Stores Kohl’s Cares Scholarship Program will award more than $425,000 in scholarships and prizes this year.
    Ranging from $50 Kohl’s gift cards to $10,000 scholarships, more than 2,300 young volunteers who have made a positive impact on their communities will be selected. Nominations for kids ages 6 to 18 years old will be accepted until March 15 at kohlskids.com.

  • Clayton named to Bellarmine dean’s list for fall semester

    LOUISVILLE, Ky. – James Clayton of Tell City was named to the fall 2012 dean’s list for Bellarmine University. Placement on this list requires a semester grade-point average of 3.5 or above, a level achieved by only a fraction of Bellarmine students, according to a press release from the university.

  • Kentucky Wesleyan to offer STEM scholarship opportunity

    OWENSBORO, Ky. – Using funds provided by the National Science Foundation, Kentucky Wesleyan College has initiated a scholarship program to increase the number of graduates in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
    High-school seniors and college transfer students interested in studying one of these in-demand fields are encouraged to apply for the STEM scholarship.
    Kentucky Wesleyan College will award scholarships up to $6,000 per year to selected incoming freshmen and transfer students.

  • Kessens earns associate degree

    AVON – Andrea Kessens graduated Nov. 2, 2012, from The Vet Tech Institute at International Business College with an associate degree in veterinary technician.

    She is currently working at the Animal Hospital of Avon in Avon. She is the daughter of Ron and Barb Kessens of Siberia.
    She is the granddaughter of Betty Kes-sens of Siberia, Joe and Betty Wiederkehr of St. Meinrad and the late Larry Kessens. She is a 2010 graduate of Perry Central High School.

  • Malone named to IU dean’s list

    BLOOMINGTON – Aaron Ross Malone has been named to the dean’s list at Indiana University for the 2012 fall semester. Students must have a 3.7 grade-point average or above on a 4.0 scale in order to be eligible for the dean’s list at Indiana University.

    He will graduate in the spring of 2013 with a bachelor of science in human biology with a concentration in human health and disease, a certificate of business foundations from the Kelley School of Business, and minors in chemistry and psychology.
