  • Janet James completes MBA program at WGU Indiana

    INDIANAPOLIS – Janet James of Evanston is celebrating her June graduation from WGU Indiana, the state’s nonprofit, online university established for working adults.
    She is the first WGU Indiana graduate from Evanston and joins 289 students who graduated from Indiana’s eighth state university in its first two years of existence.
    James earned her MBA in management and strategy. As an instructor at Ivy Tech Community College, she hopes her degree will give her more opportunities for teaching and allow her to teach a broader range of courses.

  • Board spends student-activity money

    CANNELTON – Cannelton School Board members voted at a regular meeting Thursday to spend $14,500 from the city’s junior-senior high-school extracurricular fund without getting the students’ permission.

  • Tell City high school yearbooks ready

    TELL CITY – The Tell City 2012 high school yearbooks are now available.
    Students may pick up their books in Brandi Aubrey’s classroom from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday. Yearbooks will not be available for pickup in the school office.
    Books not picked up Tuesday will not be available again until Aug. 14.
    A special for 2013 yearbooks will run through Sept. 30. Cost will be $45 per book with a nameplate.

  • Tots Lot Preschool open house, enrollment info

    TELL CITY – Tots Lots Preschool is still accepting enrollment for their 2012-13 school year. For a child to be eligible for the Wednesday, Thursday, Friday session of Tots Lots, the child must be 4 years old by Aug. 1. This session will run from 8 to 11:30 a.m.
    For a child to be eligible to enroll in the Monday-Tuesday session, they must be 3 years old by Aug. 1. This class is in session from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.

  • Cannelton Junior- Senior High School registrations in August

    CANNELTON – Students attending Cannelton Junior-Senior High School for the 2012-13 school year can register for classes and pay for books from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 7 and Aug. 8.
    Parents should take or send with their children current immunization records when registering.
    Supplies needed for sixth- , seventh- and eighth-grade students are pencils, notebooks and paper, pens, a pocket folder, calculator and a box of tissues for the classroom.
    The first day of school for students is Aug. 13.

  • Tell City Junior-Senior High School orientation

    TELL CITY – All incoming seventh-grade students and any student new to the school in the eighth grade should attend orientation at 6 p.m. Aug. 7 in the auditorium. 
    Principal Brad Ramsey and Assistant Principal Chris Hollinden will be there to welcome students and parents. It is important for parents to attend and door prizes will be awarded. 
    There will be important information shared and an opportunity for students to receive locker assignments and combinations.

    Tell City Junior-Senior High bookstore hours, opening information
    TELL CITY – Students in seventh- through 12th-grade who are new to the Tell City-Troy Township School Corp. are asked to come to high school for enrollment purposes between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Aug. 3 and Aug. 6. Students who attended William Tell Elementary last year do not need to enroll.
    Orientation for seventh-graders and any students new to the corporation will be at 6 p.m. Aug. 7.

  • Kast selected for William Walker Award

    TELL CITY – The Johns Hopkins Medical Institute has named Kristopher Kast of Tell City a 2012 William Walker Award winner.

    The William Walker Awards are granted to a small group of Johns Hopkins medical students who plan to engage in research over the summer between their first and second years.
    Judges select these students on the basis of quality of the study overall; significance of the student role in the study and relevance of the study to psychiatry.

  • Perry Central to host annual back-to-school cookout Aug. 2

    LEOPOLD – The annual Perry Central back-to-school cookout will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 2 in the school cafetorium.
    It will feature “getting ready for school” booths and activities hosted by school and community organizations and businesses.
    There will be entertainment by the Perry Central band during the cookout, bus rides for new preschoolers and the Perry Central cheerleaders will perform.
