  • Openings in 3-year-old class at Stepping Stones

    LEOPOLD — Stepping Stones Preschool, located in the St. Augustine Catholic Church Parish Hall basement seeks to provide a positive educational experience for 3- and 4-year-olds, preparing them for elementary school.
    Each week your child will be introduced to a new letter of the alphabet, with each letter will be a theme involving games, hands-on activities, arts and crafts, songs and writing activities to enrich your child’s cognitive, physical, creative and social-emotional development. Each month children will be introduced to a new color, shape and number.

  • Local high-school student attend program at U.S. Naval Academy

    ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The U.S. Naval Academy invited a select group of approximately 2,550 young men and women from around the nation and abroad to attend the Naval Academy Summer Seminar program this year. Sydney Ann Goffinet, a student at Perry Central Junior-Senior High School, will participate in the 2013 U.S. Naval Academy Summer Seminar program.

  • Chrisney HS 1956

    The Chrisney High School Class of 1956 held its 57th reunion at the Patio in Tell City June 1 with 15 classmates present.

    They are, in the front from the left, Charlotte (Fleischman) Weber, Marjorie (Graham) Mullem, Marie (Rhoades) Kundard and Marjorie (Taylor) Price. In the second row are Ruth (Hall) Terry, Judy (Engelbrecht) Sweeney, Barbara (Shourds) Woelfl and Laverne (Hughes) Williams. In the back are Kenny Phillips, Jim Shelby, Glen Meyer, Jim Stevens SR, Earl Sibrel, Loren Atkinsons, Ralph Davis and Ronnie McDowell.

  • Malone earns degree from IU

    BLOOMINGTON – Aaron Ross Malone graduated from Indiana University May 4 with a bachelor’s degree in human biology with a concentration in human health and disease, minors in chemistry and psychology and a certificate in business foundations from the Kelley School of Business.

  • TC Junior-Senior High School holds annual Honor Program

    TELL CITY – Tell City Junior-Senior High School hosted its annual honor program May 6. There were 137 students recognized at the program, which was held in the school auditorium. Principal Brad Ramsey welcomed students, parents and invited guests. Following the program, light refreshments were served in the Red Apple Inn.

  • Kemp graduates IUPUI, earns research assistantship

    INDIANAPOLIS – Arika Kemp received a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering and a minor in math in May from Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis.

    She ended her undergraduate career with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.963 and graduated with highest distinction, which is recognized to be, at minimum, the top 3 percent of those graduating with Purdue engineering and technology degrees. She remained on the dean’s list with the highest honors all four years of her undergraduate career.

  • Sons of the American Legion scholar

    Brent Badger, commander of Sons of the American Legion Detachment 213 in Tell City, presents Laurie Dixon a scholarship.

    She is a Perry Central High School graduate and the daughter of Bryan and Diane Dixon. Laurie plans to attend the University of Southern Indiana to double major in graphic design and theater arts.

  • Local student named to deans’ honor roll at Fort Hays State

    HAYS, Kan. – Izetta Dawn Davis-Roper was among the 1,096 students named to the deans’ honor roll by the deans of Fort Hays State University in Hays for the spring 2013 semester.
    The list includes undergraduate students only. To be eligible, students must have enrolled in 12 or more credit hours and have a minimum grade-point average of 3.60 for the semester.
    Full-time on-campus and virtual students are eligible. Davis-Roper is a senior majoring in general studies-general business.

  • Krutz awarded D of I scholarship

    PERRY COUNTY – The Daughters of Isabella awarded a $500 scholarship to Shelby L. Krutz, a 2013 graduate of Heritage Hills High School.

    She will attend Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis and major in business and pre-law.
    The D of I scholarship is based on financial need, academic, extracurricular and community involvement. Applicants for the award must be children or grandchildren of a member of the local D of I circle.
    Shelby attends St. Pius Catholic Church in Troy and is the daughter of Richard Krutz and Carla Glenn.
