  • Mary Helen Lautner, 85

    TELL CITY – Mary Helen Lautner, 85, passed away Monday, Jan. 30, 2012, at Newburgh Healthcare.

    She was born May 30, 1926, in Bristow to William and Mary Olive (Huff) Lanman, who preceded her in death, along with husband, Roland “Shorty” Lautner; her brothers, Delbert, Charles and James Dow Lanman; a sister, Mildred Holman; a grandchild and two great-grandchildren.

  • Paul W. Silke, 90

    BROWNSBURG – Paul W. Silke, 90, of Brownsburg, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012.
    He was born July 27, 1921, in Elberfield to William and Florence McSwane Silke.
    He earned his bachelor’s degree from University of Evansville and master’s degrees from Indiana State University and Indiana University.

  • Lloyd Hauser, 75

    TELL CITY – Lloyd F. Hauser, 75, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012.

    He was born in Perry County Dec. 10, 1936. His parents were the late Arthur and Catherine  “Katie” (Peter) Hauser. Also preceding him in death were a sister, Roberta Boerste and a brother, Hubert Hauser.

  • Delorse Purcell, 58

    OLD FORT, Tenn. – Delorse (Underhill) Purcell, 58, of Old Fort, Tenn., originally from St. Croix, died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012, at the Life Care Center of Coppen Basin in Ducktown, Tenn.
    She was born Jan. 9, 1954, to the late Novel and Elsie (Wright) Underhill in St. Croix.

  • Gerald Marvel, Jr., 85

    TELL CITY – Gerald “Jerry” Marvel Jr., 85, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012, at Golden Living Center-Lincoln Hills in Tell City.

    He was born in New Harmony, Aug. 13, 1926, to Gerald Sr. and Mary (Cox) Marvel, who preceded him in death along with a son, Larry; a grandchild, Joshua Marvel and a brother, Billy Marvel.
    Jerry was a graduate of New Harmony High School and a World War II Army veteran. He was married Nov. 25, 1948, to Betty Freeman. He retired from the Chrysler Corp. after 40 years.

    TELL CITY – Dunward Ruben Howe, 91, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012, at Perry County Memorial Hospital.

  • Rev. Eric Lies, 92

    ST. MEINRAD – The Rev. Eric Lies OSB, 92, monk and priest of Saint Meinrad, Archabbey in St. Meinrad died Monday, Jan. 30, 2012, in the monastery infirmary.
    He was born in Aurora, Ill., Oct. 13, 1919, to Peter and Catherine (Besch) Lies, and was given the name Robert William at his baptism. He was invested as a novice in 1939, professed his simple vows Aug. 6, 1940, and was ordained to the priesthood Feb. 2, 1945.
    He is survived a brother, Donald, and a sister, Marian Probst, both of Aurora, and several nieces and nephews.

  • Marion Russell, 80

    MOUNT VERNON – Marion Thomas “Pete” Russell, 80, of Mount Vernon passed away Thursday afternoon, Jan. 26, 2012, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.

    He was born July 16, 1931, in Troy, the son of Anthony and Ellen (Dunn) Russell. He married Joann Benner June 21, 1958.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Doris Ray and Homer Russell and two sisters, Mary Glover and Pearl Stolz.
    Marion retired from ADM Milling in Mount Vernon. He loved to rabbit hunt and go fishing. He was a veteran of the United States Navy.

  • Rev. Donald Walpole, 94

    ST. MEINRAD – The Rev. Donald Walpole OSB, 94, a monk of Saint Meinrad Archabbey in St. Meinrad died Friday, Jan. 27, 2012, at the monastery.
    He was born in Indianapolis, May 1, 1917, one of six children of Martin and Mary (Hannan) Walpole.
    Following his graduation from Saint Meinrad College in 1939, he was accepted into the novitiate at Saint Meinrad, subsequently professing his simple vows Aug. 6, 1940, and, three years later, his solemn vows. He was ordained to the priesthood Sept. 21, 1943.

  • Sally Schaad, 78

    DERBY – Sally J. Schaad, 78, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012, at her home.

    She was born in Indianapolis Nov. 1, 1933. Her parents were the late Hubert S. and Bessie E. (Schaad) Raines. Also preceding her in death were a son, Stephen Linn and a granddaughter, Tiffany Linn.
