The spring planting season is in full swing. Above, Sonny Labhart, along with his canine companion Siggy, tends Tuesday to the early stages of his garden, working in all-natural fertilizer and adding straw around his freshly rooted tomato sprouts. Labhart said the straw is a crucial step since impending rain could splash mud on the leaves, damaging the plants. Warding off showers that threatened, he hoped to also have some rows of corn and beans also in the ground. The third generation to work the plot, Labhart explained his grandfather had previously owned the house overlooking the land along Highway 37.
