  • TELL CITY – The Day By Day Grief support group will host its annual remembrance and hope candlelight service Dec. 3, at 7 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Tell City.

  • Valerie and Brian Cole of Troy announce the birth of their son, Harlen Jay Cole on Sept. 26, 2016, at Perry County Memorial Hospital.

    He weighed 7 pounds and 14 ounces and was 21 inches long.

    Grandparents are Carol and Marty Vinson of Tell City and Peggy and Franklin Cole of Hawesville, Ky. Great-grandparents are the late Gloria and Leroy Lindauer of Troy and Peggy and James Applegate of Cannelton.

    He was welcomed home by siblings Zaiden, 11, the late Maddix, Lucy, 5 and Scarlette, 1.

    The mother is the former Valerie Stutsman.


    BE Ministry to meet Dec. 13


    TELL CITY – BE Ministry will host its next Bible discussion on Tuesday, Dec. 13, at 6 p.m. at Noble’s IGA Café. They will discuss the Beatitudes in Matthew 5 and Luke 6. Take questions, ideas, a Bible and discussion materials.

  • TELL CITY – Tell City First United Methodist church will host motivational speaker, John Malcomson with his presentation, “Life After Death,” on Nov. 19, at 6 p.m. in the sanctuary.

    The event is open to the public and the presentation is free.

  • Dolly and Rick Smith of Troy announce the birth of their daughter Emma-Lynn Rose Smith on Sept. 13, 2016, at Perry County Memorial Hospital. She weighed 6 pounds and 7 ounces and was 19 ½ inches long.

    She was welcomed home by siblings Levi Smith, 11, and Rae-Lynn Smith, 6.

    Grandparents are Pauline Thorn of Cannelton, Charles Cronin of Tell City and Beck Voyles of Magnet. The mother is the former Dolly Cronin.

  • The Rev. Lewis “Clettes” Garrett and Glenna (Taylor) Garrett of Hawesville, Ky., formerly of Fentress County, Tenn. will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary Nov. 17.

    They were married in Jamestown, Tenn. Nov. 17, 1951, by the late Brother Willie F. Wright.

    Rev. Garrett organized Cannelton Freewill Baptist Church in December 1963 and has been the pastor for 53 consecutive years. Pastor Garrett never accepted a salary. He also worked at public works. He retired from National Southwire Aluminum in January 1991.

  • Richard and Nelda Waninger celebrated their 60th anniversary Oct. 20. They were married Oct. 20, 1956, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church near Magnet.

    They are the parents of Lorna Rogers, Myra (Bill) Cummins, Mark (Karen) Waninger and Linda (Don) Gengelbach. They have 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

    Richard retired from carpentry and farming.

    Nelda retired from Branchville Correctional facility.

  • Cherie and Jared Etienne of Tell City announce the birth of their son, Cannon Mark Etienne.

    He was born Sept. 30, 2016, at 11:11 a.m. at Deaconess Women’s Hospital. He weighed 7 pounds and 15 ounces and was 20 inches long.

    Cannon was welcomed home by two older siblings, Camiren Jay, 12 and Jada Lynn, 9.

  • Kathy and David Hammond were surprised with an early 50th wedding anniversary party at Blue Heron Winery. The party was given by their children, Amy and Geoff Layman of Granger, Todd and Jaime Hammond and Kurt and Lori Hammond, all of Tell City. The couple have eight grandchildren.

    Hammond and the former Kathy Kleeman were married on Nov. 4, 1966 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church.

    Kathy is the daughter of the late Velma and Louis Kleeman. David is the son of Corlean Hammond and the late Richard Hammond of Owensboro, Ky.
