  • TELL CITY – A celebration of the life and ministry of Sue Scott will be held at Evangelical United Church of Christ sanctuary in Tell City on Tuesday, Feb. 14, at noon. The public is invited to gather in prayer, remembrance and song to celebrate Sue Scott, wife of former EUCC minister Don Scott. The Scotts served EUCC and the community for eight years from 1985 to 1993.

  • ST. MEINRAD – A Benedictine monk whose life’s work earned him the Spencer County Arts Award, died Monday night at the age of 89.

    The Rev. Gavin Barnes, was a jubilarian both of profession and priesthood. He was born in Bedford, on Nov. 15, 1927, to John Dewey and Helen (Krebs) Barnes, and was given the name John Dewey Jr. at his baptism. In 1941, he entered Saint Meinrad High School.

  • PERRY COUNTY – The Men’s Lenten Breakfast Fellowship Group of Perry County has finalized plans for its annual Lenten breakfasts. Cannelton United Church of Christ will host the first breakfast Saturday, March 4. The breakfasts will continue each Saturday morning throughout the Lenten season from 8 to 8:50 a.m.

    The change in start time was requested by the Perry County Clergy Association in an attempt to increase attendance. Donations will be accepted to cover the cost of the food.

  • A team reclaimed their first place win this year during the Perry County Community Foundation’s Trivia Night held Jan. 28. The annual fundraiser allows participants to compete for a chance for the winning team to provide a $500 grant to their favorite charity.


  • An afternoon ceremony Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016, at St. Mark Catholic Church united Lydia Anne Etienne and Brandon Eric Williams in marriage.

    The bride is the daughter of Helen Etienne-Schipp and Dennis Schipp of Tell City and the late Michael Etienne. The groom is the son of Sherri Leimgruber Meserve and Curt Meserve of Hawesville, Ky. and the late Eric Williams, took place Oct. 15, 2016, at 2 p.m. at St. Mark Catholic Church.

    The bride took the groom’s last name.

  • TELL CITY – The public is invited to join the members of Evangelical United Church of Christ Sundays through Feb. 26 as Pastor JT Hills explores how the lessons of Dr. Seuss relate to the Sermon on the Mount.

    Members of the congregation will read seven Dr. Seuss books to the children during the Time with our Youth program. Pastor JT will follow with insights into the works of Dr. Seuss as they study the Sermon on the Mount in the book of Matthew. 

  • ST. MEINRAD – In a brief ceremony, Novice Joseph Wagner was clothed in the Benedictine habit at Saint Meinrad Archabbey, St. Meinrad, on Jan. 19, 2017.

    He now begins a year of monastic formation, including study of the Rule of St. Benedict and monastic history.

    Novice Joseph, 29, of Quincy, Ill., attended high school at Archbishop Quigley Preparatory Seminary in Chicago.
