    TELL CITY – Deer Creek Baptist Church will host an hour of praise music from Ryan Lynton, a singer-songwriter from Corydon Sunday, April 30, at 10:30 a.m. There will be a fellowship dinner following the service.   • ST. MEINRAD – Two seminarians received the order of deacon from the Most Rev. Charles Thompson, bishop of the Diocese of Evansville, at the Saint Meinrad Archabbey Church Saturday.

    The newly ordained deacons are Jeffrey Dufresne of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis and Brother Peduru Fonseka OSB of Saint Meinrad Archabbey. They are students at Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology.

    Others in their class will be or have been ordained deacons in their respective dioceses.

  • Michael and Cheryl Wollenman of Bristow celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary the weekend of Sunday, April 23, with a cabin getaway at Forgotten Times in Derby. They were visited by their children and grandchildren for grilling, fishing and paddleboating. The couple ended their weekend with a meal at The Overlook Restaurant in Leavenworth.

    Their children are Tracy (Mark) Durcholz of Ferdinand and Amanda Wollenman of St. Croix. Their grandkids include Landon, Claire, Desiree and Caroline.

    ROCKPORT – After performing his signature folk style for a few years in Indianapolis, South Spencer High School graduate Andrew S. Burden has returned to Spencer County with a professionally recorded six-song album.

  • Kelsey A. Gudorf and Cody A. Englert, both of Jasper, announce their engagement and upcoming marriage at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 13, 2017, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper.

    The bride-to-be is the daughter of Mark and Louise Gudorf of Jasper. The future groom is the son of Keith Englert of Dale and Lynn Daverin of Leopold.

    Gudorf graduated from Jasper High School in 2012 and from the University of Southern Indiana in Evansville in 2016. She is employed as a dental hygienist at The Smile Center in Huntingburg.

  • Bridgette Kellems and Chase Gerber of Cannelton announce the birth of their son, Charles Vincent Gerber, on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at 1:44 p.m. He was delivered at Perry County Memorial Hospital. He weighed 8 pounds and 2 ounces and was 20 ½ inches long.

    Charles was welcomed home by his sister, Addilyn Grayce Gerber, 1.

    Grandparents are Angel (James) and Jason Gaynor of Cannelton, Daniel Kellems Sr. of Cannelton, Carla Hunter of Santa Claus and Chad Gerber of Cannelton.

    The 18th of this month marks the 75th anniversary of the Doolittle Raid against Japan during World War Two. It was an attempt to strike back at Japan after the attack on Pearl Harbor and to buoy American morale in the home front.

    Placing his left boot against the metal rib just above the aircraft’s deck, Lt. Miller braced himself. The bomber was pitching up and down wildly with the ship, as he looked out at the Navy men scurrying about the deck of the carrier preparing for the launch.

    PERRY COUNTY – Perry County musician Ryan Pfeifer is no stranger to the stage, having been in the local cover band, Carter Valley Boys, for a few years with friends before striking out on his own in recent years. 

  • Vicki and David Dickenson of Tell City celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary April 15 with a family dinner celebration. They were married April 11, 1992 at Evangelical United Church of Christ in Tell City. They have a son, Cole Dickenson, 15.

    David is employed at Best Home Furnishings and Vicki is employed at Owensboro Health. Mrs. Dickenson is the former Vicki Sutcliffe.
