  • TELL CITY – Catholic Charities will host its third annual St. Joseph’s Table Sunday, March 30, at the St. Paul parish hall at 824 Jefferson Street in Tell City.

    The St. Joseph’s Table is held around the feast day of St. Joseph and is a celebration of the family. This year’s St. Joseph’s Table will include a buffet consisting of turkey, dressing, gravy, green beans, cranberry salad, dessert and a drink.

  • DEERFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio – Boy Scout Michael Thomas Strassell of Troop 21 in Deerfield Township, Ohio, was recognized at a special court of honor Jan. 11 for achieving the Eagle Scout Award.

    The award is a Boy Scout’s highest honor and only 4 percent of Boy Scouts achieve the goal.

    Michael has been working toward this goal since first grade.

    According to his family, he has always been conscientious, honest, fair, kind and sensitive.

  • Oakwood residents Robert and Mary Powers were surprised with a cake and flowers recently by staff in honor of their 63rd wedding anniversary.

    Deb Rickleman, Oakwood life enrichment assistant, serenaded the couple with a few of their favorite songs.

  • Jerry and Pat Fella of Santa Claus will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary April 11, 2014.

    Mr. Fella married the former Pat Kleeman April 11, 1964, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Tell City.

    The couple have four children, Cary Fella and his wife, Rhonda, of Evanston, Brad Fella and his wife, Connie, of Santa Claus, Sheri Fella of Bloomington and Ali Weaver and her husband, Watson, of Santa Claus.
    They also have eight grandchildren, Geoff, Chelsea, Kyla, Jacob, Madison and Gavin Fella and Zack and Paige Weaver.

  • Jessica Lee Arns and Adam Joseph Daum, both of St. Croix, announce their engagement and upcoming marriage.

    The bride-to-be is the daughter of Ken and Marilyn Smith of Holland and Donald and Tina Arns of Blue Grass, Iowa.

    Mr. Daum is the son of Joseph Daum and the late Carol Daum of Rome.
    Miss Arns is a graduate of Southridge High School and is employed as an administrative assistant in the medical department at Branchville Correctional Facility

  • Katie Brewer of Bedford and Dylan Hirsch, formerly of Bristow, were united in marriage March 1, 2014, at the Medora Pentecostal Church in Medora in a cermony officiated by the Rev. Timothy Gill.

    The bride is the daughter of Joe and Peggy Brewer of Bedford. The groom is the son of MaryBeth Hirsch and the late Mitch Hirsch of Bristow.

    Whitney Gothra, friend of the bride, was chosen as matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Bailey Wayman, Michah Brewer and Heather Brown, all friends of the bride.

    Timothy Gothra, friend of the groom, was chosen as best man.

  • FORT MEADE, Md. – Air Force Airman Jennifer K. Sherman recently graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.

    She completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills and earned four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

    Now under construction behind its courthouse, the county’s new jail will move the county from having a Mayberry-level facility to one that is state-of-the-art, County Sheriff Lee Chestnut said March 13, making reference to a television show broadcast from 1960 to ’68.

    The current jail in Cannelton was built in 1965.

    The sheriff provided the News a tour March 13 of what some are calling the Perry County sheriff’s office and detention center.

  • Shelby Lynn Wright of Tobinsport and Brandon Scott Aldridge of Ferdinand announce their engagement and approaching marriage.

    The bride-elect is the daughter of Sean and Theresa Wright of Tobinsport. She is a 2009 graduate of Perry Central High School and a 2013 graduate of the University of Southern Indiana with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. She is employed as a registered nurse in the nursery unit of Owensboro Regional Hospital.

    Mr. Aldridge is the son of Scott and Sheila Aldridge of Ferdinand.
