  • Perry Central Captains Club recognized students in several grade levels for academic achievements. The top 10 students from each grade level of seventh through 11th were recognized. 

  • RICHMOND, Ky. – Jamie Lea Baker of Tell City is one of 1,177 students to earn president’s list honors for the spring 2014 semester at Eastern Kentucky University.

    Baker is a senior athletic training major at EKU.

    The president’s list was established by the university to recognize outstanding academic achievement. It is bestowed upon full-time undergraduate students who attain a perfect 4.0 grade-point average for a semester.
     

  • Tell City Junior-Senior High School hosted its annual honors program last month. There were 169 students recognized at the program, which was held in the school auditorium.

    Students who scored a Pass+ on state testing in mathematics and/or language arts and who maintained a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher for the first semester of the current school year received Presidential Awards for Educational Excellence.

    Students received a certificate, pin and letter from President Obama.

  • DOOLITTLE MILLS – Doolittle Mills Bethel Christian Church vacation Bible school will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. July 7 through 11.

    This year’s theme is “Jungle Safari.”

    Children of all ages are welcome to attend.

  • CANNELTON – First Baptist Church in Cannelton will hold vacation Bible school from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 19.

    The theme will be “God’s Team.”

    Morning lessons will be followed by a provided lunch and an afternoon of fun and games.

    This event is open to children in kindergarten through 12th grade. Parents may drop children off beginning at 9:30 a.m. and all children must be picked up by 3:30 p.m. Parents will be required to sign permission slips available at drop-off or by sending email to youthrefuge2012@gmail.com.

  • LAMAR – St. Peter’s United Church of Christ near Lamar will hold its annual buffet supper and picnic beginning at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 5, at the church.

    Supper will feature fried chicken, baked ham, salads, casseroles, fresh fruit and home-baked desserts.

    Guests will also have a chance to stroll through the grove and sample various flavors of homemade ice cream at the ice-cream stand.

    A silent auction, organized by the church youth group, will also be held during the day.

  • Allen and Kris Seamon of Santa Claus will celebrate their golden anniversary during an open house from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 6, 2014, at Christmas Lake Village Recreation Center in Santa Claus.

    Mr. Seamon and the former Kristine Masterson were united in marriage July 11, 1964, at Troy First Christian Church in Troy.

    They have two daughters and four grandchildren.

    Mr. Allen is retired from Alcoa and Mrs. Allen is retired from the Tell City-Troy Township School Corp.

  • Adam and Rhonda Smith of Peacedale, R.I. announce the arrival of their first daughter, Anna Lucille. She was born May 19, 2014, weighing 9 pounds and was 20 inches long.

    Anna has two older brothers, Lucas, 6, and Caleb, 3.

    She is the granddaughter of Roger and Colleen Smith of Tell City and Patricia Finch of Lexington and the late Rodney Finch. Anna’s great-grandparents are Marietta Collins of Tell City and the late Jake Collins, the late Parvin Sr. and Lucille Smith, the late Sadie Mae and Preston Martin, the late Maude Spurlock and the late Scobee Finch.

  • TELL CITY – Tell City High School’s Amity Lain, who was recently selected by American Legion Post 213 Women’s Auxiliary as an alternate 2014 delegate to Hoosier Girls State, was chosen to attend this week’s event in place of a delegate in another district.

    The event is held June 22-28 at Trine University in Angola.

    Lain is the daughter of Jimmy Lain and Mandy Lain.
