    Amid the prayers and support of parishioners, the long process of renovating one of Perry County’s most historic and beautiful churches has wrapped up

    The Rev. Brian Esarey said work on St. Augustine Church in Leopold concluded in May. The project cost about $220,000 and began in 2009 with work on the church’s stone exterior and roof. Renovation then moved inside and ended in May with installation of a new sound system.

  • Jeanne and Philip Wittmer will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary June 10, 2016.

    They were married June 10, 1966, in Fort Wayne, where Phil was a college student at Purdue University and Indiana Institute of Technology and Jeanne was beginning her teaching career at East Noble High School in Kendallville.

    After having later lived in Howard County, in and near Kokomo, they retired to Perry County in 2007, where Phil was a graduate of the Tell City Class of 1963.

  • TELL CITY – Evangelical United Church of Christ, Tell City United Methodist Church and St. Paul Catholic Church have scheduled a cooperative vacation Bible school for the week of June 27-30.

    Four, five and six year olds who have completed kindergarten will attend VBS at the United Methodist Church at 10th and Mozart streets from 9:15 to 11:15 a.m., while those students who have completed Grades 1-4 will attend at St. Paul Catholic Church at Main and Jefferson Streets from 9 to 11:30 a.m., with craft, game and snack centers stationed at EUCC during mid-mornings.

  • Audra Rose Gehlhausen and Joshua Allen Henke announce their engagement and upcoming wedding on Saturday June 11, 2016. The ceremony will take place at Monkey Hollow Winery in St. Meinrad at 2 p.m. with a reception to follow at Fulda Sportsman Club.

    The bride-to-be’s parents are Denise and Tim Gehlhausen of Bristow. The future groom’s parents are Dinah and Steve Goffinet of Tell City and Glenn Henke of Ferdinand.

    The bride-to-be is a graduate of Perry Central High School and graduated Indiana University Southeast in 2013.

  • ST. MEINRAD ­– The Right Rev. Kurt Stasiak OSB was elected archabbot of Saint Meinrad Archabbey by the Benedictine monks of the community on June 2.

    He becomes the 10th abbot and seventh archabbot in the community’s 162-year history, succeeding Archabbot Justin DuVall OSB, who announced in January that he would resign the position upon the new abbot’s election. He had served as abbot since Dec. 31, 2004.

  • Tracy and Mark Durcholz of Ferdinand announce the birth of their daughter, Caroline Jean Durcholz, on March 30, 2016.

    She was born at 2:32 a.m. at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. She weighed 5 pounds and was 18 inches long. She was welcomed home by her big sister, Claire, 4.

    Maternal grandparents are Cheryl and Michael Wollenman of Bristow. Paternal grandparents are Betty and James Ducholz of Ferdinand.

    Great-grandparents in clued Betty Wollenman of Ferdinand and Josepha Sitzman of Bristow.

  • Vivian and Raphael DuPont of Tell City, will celebrate their 75th wedding anniversary Sunday, June 5, with a family dinner at The Patio Restaurant in Tell City.

    Raphael and the former Vivian Howell were married June 7, 1941, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Leopold.

    TELL CITY – Would you like to knit or crochet hats and scarves for homeless shelters, veteran hospitals and Head Start children?

    Take your needles or crochet hooks and they’ll supply the yarn.

    The next meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 2, at Tell City First United Methodist Church.

  • Josh and Britney Clark of Tell City announce the birth of their son, Leo Gregory Clark. He was delivered at 4 p.m., May 6, 2016, at Deaconess Gateway Women’s Hospital in Evansville. He weighed 7 pounds, 8 ounces and was 21 inches long. Mrs. Clark is the former Britney Hendershot. Maternal grandparents are Greg and Yvette Hendershot and paternal grandparents are Gary and Linda Clark and Vicki Clark, all of Tell City. Great-grandparents are Tony and Donna Collignon, Norman and Ruth Weber, June Hendershot, Bettye Volgemann and Lucille Clark.
