  • TELL CITY – Kayla Lasher, daughter of Rodney and Rose Lasher of Tell City, has been announced as the 2010-11 Optimist Club essay contest winner. In addition to winning first place in the local contest, her essay will be sent to the district level to be judged along with winners from other Optimist Clubs in the district.
    College scholarships are available for top winners at the district level. The winner of the district competition will be sent to the international-level contest.

  • Crystal Payne of Owensboro, Ky., and David Holman of Tell City announce their engagement and approaching marriage.
    The bride-elect is the daughter of Robert and Patricia Walker of Ewing, Ill. She is a 1992 graduate of Benton Consolidated High School in Benton, Ill. and graduated summa cum laude in 2002 from Daymar College with a degree in medical office assisting. She was a part of the National Honor Society and named to the dean’s list while attending Daymar.
    She works as an information services assistant at AT&T in Owensboro.

  • Alvin and Gertrude Malone celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary Feb. 26, 2011.

    Alvin and the former Gertrude Rogier were married Feb. 25, 1946, in Leopold. Their attendants were Robert and Tom Rogier, Emogene Faulkenberg and Leona Schwartz.
    Mr. Malone, a World War II veteran, is retired from Mulzer Crushed Stone. Mrs. Malone worked in Evansville riveting airplanes during World War II and is a retired homemaker.

  • TELL CITY – Mayor Barbara Ewing of Tell City has called a meeting of all growers in Perry County that are interested in the 2011 Tell City Farmers Market for 6:30 p.m. March 14. The meeting will be held in the council chambers of City Hall in Tell City. Also present for the meeting will be partnering agencies, Perry County Chamber of Commerce, Perry County Convention and Visitors Bureau, Purdue Extension and United Way of Perry County.

  • TELL CITY – Women from the county gathered at the Schergens Center in Tell City Feb. 26 for the annual Glamour, Glitz and Gourmet expo. Several booths of local vendors lined the floor, offering shoppers to browse through jewelry, tupperware, cosmetics, purses and important health information.
    The event was sponsored by the Perry County Women for Women Advisory Committee.
     

  • TELL CITY – The Tell City Soccer Club is organizing a soccer league for students in third through sixth grades this spring. The season will run from the week of March 28 through the middle of May.
    The league will be limited to 36 players and players will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
    The fee is $22 for the first child in a family and $15 for an additional child. The deadline for registration is March 15.

  • TELL CITY – Fiddler and frog-leg dinners will be served at the Knights of Columbus building each Friday night during Lent, beginning this week and continuing through April 22.
    Fiddler and frog-leg dinners will include frog legs or two fiddlers, cole slaw, corn or green beans, roll and a dessert. Dinners will cost $8.95.
    Single fiddlers cost $3 each and frog legs will be $2 per pair.
    Dinners will be served from 5 to 9 p.m. each night and carryout will be available.

  • TELL CITY – The United Way of Perry County will host a campaign celebration to honor volunteer of the year Larry Peter.
    During the event, grants will also be awarded, Perry County Power of Youth will be recognized and the annual meeting will be held. The celebration will begin at 5:30 p.m. March 22 at Fifth Third Bank in Tell City.
    Light refreshments will be served.
