  • Tell City Moose Lodge 1424’s Picnic was a hit despite a few showers and hot conditions. Friday night guests enjoyed a twilight ride on the Swinger. Fireworks capped the event Sunday night.

  • Fireworks explode over Magnet Monday as a huge display supported by the community drew hundreds of people. The show outside Betty Ray’s Landing is a community event, with donations from local businesses and residents. Food and music rounded out the celebration. Fireworks shows were held Sunday night in Derby and Tell City.

  • The Oil Township High School Class of 1961 held their 50-year class reunion June 10 at the Patio Steakhouse in Cannelton.

  • In June several Oakwood Health Campus residents enjoyed a fishing trip at Twin Lakes Cedar Cabins and campground in Derby.

    Nearly every resident got at least a nibble and several small bluegill and crappie were hooked and thrown back. The residents were assisted by staff baiting hooks and casting lines. Fish stories were told and cold waters were had. After a picnic lunch, the residents headed back to Oakwood. Pictured here, resident Patty Tindall reels in a catch.
     

  • INDIANAPOLIS – Ava Nicole Hilgenhold has been selected as a state finalist for the National American Miss Pageant to be held this weekend in Indianapolis.

    She will compete in the junior pre-teen division on stage as well as act and portfolio optional categories with the opportunity to advance to the national competition to be held in California in November.

  • Great-grandmother Betty (Dill) Goble holds her great-grandson Hunter Lee Kleeman. Also posing with them for the generations photo is Hunter’s grandmother, Kaye (Goble) Kleeman and his father, Wesley Lee Kleeman.
     

  • PERRY COUNTY – Two high-school valedictorian and salutatorians, eight high-school National Honor Society members, 15 future college freshman, 12 student athletes, 12 high-school club participants, seven 4-H trip award winners, seven local 4-H club officers, past grand champion project winners and four Perry County 4-H Junior Leaders make up the 2011 class of 10-year 4-H members.

  • Agape vacation Bible school ends Friday
    CANNELTON – The Agape Community Church, 101 Taylor St. in Cannelton, will continue its “Journey to the Center of the Heart,” vacation Bible school today and Friday.
    The school is for students preschool through fifth grade. Sessions will be held from 9 a.m. to noon each day and will include a teaching time, crafts and a snack.
    Transportation can be provided for any child wanting to attend by calling the church at 547-2772.

  • Children from St. Augustine Church and other local parishes participated in “Go The Distance!” Bible school June 13 through June 17.

  • The parents of Sarah Rae Carver and Derek Robert Smith announce their children’s engagement and approaching marriage.

    The bride-elect is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Carver of Corydon. She is a 2005 graduate of Corydon High School and a 2009 graduate of Indiana University.
    She works as an eighth-grade science teacher.
    Mr. Smith is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Kerry Smith of Corydon. He is a 2005 graduate of Corydon High School and a 2006 graduate of Vincennes University.
    He is a welder and fabricator.
