Aside from the numerous publications and formal papers located in the Tell City Historical Society’s museum files describing Tell City’s worship history, an entire section is dedicated to artifacts pertaining to early religious practices of Tell City’s settlers.

  • Free on the inside

    A tent revival behind the razor wires of Branchville Correctional Facility stirred the spirits of hundreds of men incarcerated there. The facility was the first correctional facility in the state to sponsor a tent revival last year and another complex has adopted the idea.

    Staff and more than 50 volunteers helped organize and facilitate the series of sermons, music, personal testimonials and inspirational speakers. Each of the 13 sessions promoted a positive message, the facility’s chaplains said.

  • Birth announcements, Sept. 9

    Kasen Alan Hildenbrand
    Nicholas and Janice Hildenbrand of Evanston announce the birth of their son, Kasen Alan Hildenbrand, Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care in Jasper.
    The infant weighed 6 pounds and 12 ounces.
    Kasen was baptized Aug. 21 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Fulda. He wore his father’s baptismal gown. Godparents are Luke and Jilliane Hildenbrand of Newburgh.
    Mrs. Hildenbrand is the former Janice Woebkenberg. He has one older brother, Kyler Matthew.

    Little Pigeon to host gospel sing Sept. 18
    LAMAR – The Little Pigeon Baptist Church, off Indiana 245 on W. CR 1200N near Lamar, will hold a gospel sing at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 18.
    Crossties Bluegrass Gospel will be the special guests for the evening. Refreshments will be served at 6 p.m. All are welcome to attend.

  • Hiram Frakes Sunday at Branchville Methodist Church

    BRANCHVILLE – The Branchville United Methodist Church will celebrate Hiram Frakes Sunday, Sept. 19.
    Frakes was a Methodist minister who was born in Branchville in 1888. In 1907, he married Leota Walker, also of Branchville. His call to the ministry led him to the remote area of eastern Kentucky Appalachia. There were no roads or civilized law.
    Ignorance, feuding and moonshining were prominent. Rev. Frakes established a church, post office, schools and care-giving facilities. He developed a Christian community called the Henderson Settlement.
