    NEWTONVILLE – Area children are invited to New Hope Baptist’s summer vacation Bible school, “Colossal Coaster World,” June 10 through June 13.

  • CANNELTON – Cornerstone Christian School, affiliated with Freewill Baptist Church in Cannelton, announces their commencement exercises to honor church high-school seniors at 2 p.m. Saturday.

  • Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2939 Ladies Auxiliary Unit elected officers for the 2013-14 year recently.   • Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2939 elected officers for the 2013-14 year recently.   • Perry County Girl Scout troops gathered for a sleepover recently. The theme of the sleepover was “Brave.” Troops 503, 126, 23, 254 and 653 participated in the event.

  • Kenneth Cody and Amanda Schnell of Saint Anthony announce the birth of their daughter, Aubrey Mae Schnell Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at Memorial Hospital in Jasper.
    The infant weighed 7 pounds, 11 ounces and was 21 inches long.
    The mother is the former Amanda Hasenour.
    Grandparents are Gary and Dolores Hasenour of Celestine, Keith Schnell of Louisville, Ky., and Kim Esarey of Bristow. Great-grandparents are Kenneth and Diana LaGrange and Alvina Schnell.

  • David and Bessie Werne of St. Meinrad will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary at 5 p.m. June 15, 2013, with a Mass at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church. A celebration will follow the Mass for invited guests. Invitations have been sent.

    Mr. Werne married the former Bessie Phelps June 1, 1963, at St. Meinrad Cath-olic Church. Attendants were Dalene (Pekingpaugh) Arnett, Carolyn (Anderson) Etienne, Martha (Werne) Tempel, Mary Werne, Dennis Werne and the late Darrel Phelps.
    The couple has one son, Barry Werne of Evansville, and two grandsons.

  • Memorial Day ceremonies for deceased Perry County veterans, including service members killed on active duty, will be held throughout the area Sunday and Monday.
    Services will be conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2939, Tell City American Legion Post 213, Harry G. Myers American Legion Post 142 of Cannelton and St. Meinrad American Legion Post 366, in conjunction with post auxiliaries and Sons of the American Legion.
