  • Rome Fall Fest plans set

    ROME – The Rome Community Center (the Old Courthouse at Rome) is preparing for the Fall Festival set for Oct. 2.
    Serving will begin at 11 a.m. with a fried chicken dinner complete with dessert and drink. A concession stand will be available outside through out the day.
    Danny Burns will sing gospel music from 10:30 to 11 a.m. He will be followed by music from the Nashville Revue with Ray Reed and band starting at noon.

  • Yard, bake sale and raffle benefit Friday, Saturday

    REO – Angela Hall of Hawesville, Ky., will host a yard and bake sale and raffle on behalf of Marlyn Miller, formerly of Rockport, to help cover the bereavement costs incurred when Maryln’s fight with breast cancer ended Aug. 11. All money raised from the raffle and sales will go directly to Boultinghouse Funeral Home in Rockport.

  • Evanston hog roast Saturday

    EVANSTON – A hog roast will be held in Evanston Saturday and will include many activities.
    The first event for the day will be a sand volleyball tourney at 10 a.m. Cost is $40 per team. A cornhole tourney will follow at 1 p.m. with sign ups beginning at noon. Participants are asked to take their own partners. Cost is $5 per person.
    A horseshoe tourney will be held at 7 p.m. with sign ups beginning at 6. Partners will be drawn and cost is $5 per person.
    A euchre tourney will also start at 7 p.m. and participants are asked to take their own partner.

  • Leopold barbecue cook-off Saturday

    LEOPOLD – The Leopold Park Association will host a backyard barbecue competition Saturday at Leopold Memorial Park.
    Grillers will have a choice of chicken or pork. Everyone is welcome to participate.
    Serving will begin at 5 p.m. and prize money will be awarded. Music by Sweetwater will start at 5 p.m.

    If raining, the event will be canceled and rescheduled at a later date.

  • Rome VFD hog roast Sunday

    ROME – The Rome Volunteer Fire Department will host a hog roast Sunday at the Rome Community Center.
    Church services will be held at 10:45 a.m. and a hog roast meal will start at 11:30. Dinner will include pork, creek fries, green beans, slaw, bread and choice of tea, lemonade or coffee.
    A country store will also be open to visitors. Items being sold include baked goods, crafts, canned goods and more. Entertainment will be provided from noon to 4 p.m. by the Country Sunshine Band with Darrell Toomey and group of Owensboro, Ky.

  • Kentucky Highway 60 Yard Sale starts Sept. 30

    KENTUCKY – Over the weekend of Sept. 30 through Oct. 2, eight western Kentucky counties will team up to present the sixth annual Highway 60 Yard Sale. The sale will stretch for 200 miles along U.S. Highway 60 through Livingston, Crittenden, Union, Henderson, Daviess, Hancock, Breckinridge and Meade counties. Cities along the route include Smithland, Salem, Marion, Sturgis, Morganfield, Waverly, Corydon, Henderson, Owensboro, Lewisport, Hawesville, Cloverport, Hardinsburg, Irvington and Muldraugh, as well as dozens of smaller communities in between.

  • Kiwanis fish fry Friday

    TELL CITY – The Tell City Kiwanis Club will host its annual Fall Fish Fry Friday before the Perry Central vs. Tell City football game.
    The fish fry will be located in the Tell City High School Cafeteria, with live music by Leo Gronquist. Serving begins at 4:30 p.m. and will end at 7.
    Advance ticket sales are being conducted. Prices are $7 for adults over 18; $6 for students age 13-18 and $5 for children 12 and younger. Tickets purchased at the door will cost an additional $1 for each ticket.

  • EUCC bazaar set for Oct. 1

    TELL CITY – The annual Evangelical United Church of Christ bazaar will be held from 7 to 10 a.m. Oct. 1 in fellowship hall.
    The bazaar will be an old-fashioned breakfast with homemade biscuits and sausage gravy, German fried potatoes, scrambled eggs, toast, sausage patties, coffee and orange juice available.
    There will also be a country store featuring homemade baked items, candy, canned fruit and vegetables, relish, jellies, pickles and craft items.
    The public is invited to attend.

  • Pageant planned for Rome Octoberfest

    ROME – A pageant is being put together for this year’s Octoberfest in Rome.
    The event will start at 1 p.m. Oct. 2 and categories will include newborn to 6-month-old boys and girls; 7- to 12-month-old boys and girls; 13- to 24-month-old boys and girls, 2- to 4-year-old boys and girls, 5- to 7-year-old boys and girls, 8- to 10-year-old girls, 11- to 12-year-old girls, 13- to 15-year-old girls and 16- to 19- year-old girls.
    There will also be a twins and multiples category.
