  • 4-H member Hubert elected to state Jr. Leader Council

    INDIANAPOLIS – Hillary Hubert of Tell City was elected to the 2015 State 4-H Junior Leader Council at a recent state 4-H junior leader conference at the University of Indianapolis.

    Each year, representatives from the current conference are elected by their peers to serve on the council. The council will be responsible for planning and implementing the 2015 state 4-H junior leader conference.

    THE CLASS OF 1966 GAL PAL LUNCH will be held at noon Thursday, July 10, at The Patio restaurant in Tell City.

    THE WILLIAM TELL CENTER will host its weekly dance and carry-in dinner Saturday. Dinner will begin at 5:30 p.m. and Crosswinds will perform at 7 p.m. Cost is $5 and includes drinks and snacks. Line dancing is held Wednesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. Card playing is held every Tuesday at 6 p.m. The public is invited to all events. Call 547-2714 for more information.

  • Derby fireworks July 5

    PERRY COUNTY – Fourth of July fireworks shows have been scheduled in Derby and Magnet.

    Fireworks in Derby will begin just after dusk Saturday, July 5, at Mulzer Park. In Magnet, fireworks are planned for dusk Friday, July 4.

    VFW summer party today

    TELL CITY – Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2939 Ladies Auxiliary will host an annual summer party today at 6:30 p.m. at the post home.

    Guests are asked to take a covered dish and all auxiliary members and VFW members attending the meeting are invited to attend.

    LEOPOLD - The Perry County Substance Abuse Committee will host a grant presentation at noon Wednesday, June 25, at Perry Central High School in the conference room.

  • March of Dimes baby contest July 12

    TELL CITY - The annual March of Dimes baby contest held during the Perry County 4-H Fair will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 12, at the 4-H fairgrounds in Tell City.

  • Free Health screenings July 17

    TELL CITY - The next Deaconess VNA Plus blood pressure and blood-sugar screenings are scheduled from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday, July 17 at Twilight Towers in Tell City.

  • Historical society picnic planned for July 28

    TELL CITY - The annual summer picnic for the Tell City Historical Society is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday, July 28, at the Moose Lodge in Tell City.

    The meal will be served at 6:30 p.m. Chicken and drinks will be furnished and members are asked to take a covered dish.

    A signup sheet will be available at the June meeting or to make reservations by phone, call Ann at (812) 547-3335 before July 10 or Mark at (812) 547-2553 after July 10.

    Reservations must be made by July 18.

  • Clay Day to be held at winery Saturday

    ROCKY POINT - An afternoon and evening of music, pottery, art and brick- oven-fired pizzas is planned for 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Blue Heron Winery in Rocky Point.

    Authors Michael Highfill and Mike and Kathy Finley of the recently released "Cannelton, Indiana Potteries" will be available and have copies of their book, displays and items for sale.

    They will also offer free pottery appraisals for those curious about the value and authenticity of their clay pieces.

  • Cannelcade of Music set for Friday

    CANNELTON - A second attempt at starting the second season of Cannelcade of Music summer events is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. Friday at the site of the former Sunlight Hotel at Washington and First streets.

    The first event this year was scheduled for May 9 but canceled due to rain. The location is a change from last year and is also the site of a portable miniature-golf course that will be open during the event.
