    Knits and Knots first meeting of 2016 Thursday

     

    TELL CITY – Knits and Knots will start up again in January.

    The group will meet Thursday, Jan. 7, at 6:30 p.m. at Tell City First United Methodist Church.

    Those who already knit or crochet hats and scarves are welcome to join the group. Those who have always wanted to learn can swing by the meeting.

    Participants are told to take needles or crochet hooks and the group will supply the yarn.

  • 4-H launches new Spark Clubs

    PERRY COUNTY – Youth in grades 3-12 now have a new way to have fun while learning practical, hands-on skills in 4-H Spark Clubs.

    These clubs have a single focus and meet for a total of six hours or more. The clubs are highly interactive and are designed to spark an interest in a subject.

    Contact the Purdue Extension-Perry County office at (812) 547-7084 to enroll. There is an annual $20 4-H Enrollment fee.

  • Campaign viewing party Saturday

    Southwestern Indiana for Bernie Sanders will hold a debate viewing party at the Ferdinand Branch Library, at 5:30 EST for a bite to eat and special streamed message at 6 p.m. from the Bernie Sanders campaign. The Democratic Debate will start at 8 p.m. Eastern Saturday on ABC. Those interested can RSVP at berniesanders.com.

    Knights of Columbus’ ABC drive underway

    TELL CITY – The Knights of Columbus Council 1172’s annual afghans, blankets and cuddles drive is underway. Boxes are set up in local banks and churches.

  • Women of Ireland Christmas Program

  • Blood drive set at St. Mark Church

     

    PERRY COUNTY – The American Red Cross encourages eligible donors to end the year with real meaning by donating blood for hospital patients in need.

    Holiday activities, severe weather and seasonal illnesses, like the flu, can pull people away from their regular blood donation schedules. This creates a greater need for blood donations this time of year, especially around the winter holidays. To encourage donations, all those who  donate Dec. 23 through Jan. 3 will get a long-sleeve Red Cross T-shirt, while supplies last.

  • Eagle Watch at Patoka Lake Jan. 9

    PATOKA LAKE – Look for bald eagles in the wild and see one up close with other live birds of prey during Patoka Lake’s 28th annual Eagle Watch, Jan. 9.

    The program runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. EST, with indoor and outdoor programs at the Patoka Lake Nature Center.
