  • Girl Scouts announce cookie booth sale dates

    TELL CITY – Local Girl Scouts are delivering cookies now through March 12. Customers can also purchase boxes of cookies for $3.50 each at cookie booth sales through out the county, while supplies last.
    Sales for Perry County this year were down about 59 cases, with a total sale of 1,268 cases for the area.
    Booth sales in Perry County are as follows:
    From 3 to 6 p.m. Feb. 17 at Fifth Third Bank in Tell City.
    From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 17 at Noble’s IGA.
    From 9 a.m. to sell out Feb. 18 at Fifth Third Bank in Tell City.

  • Perry County Memorial to offer CPR, first aid classes

    TELL CITY – The Heartsaver First Aid and CPR with AED class will be held from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. A skills test is required for the certification class. Class fee is $55 and registration is required by Tuesday.
    A Family and Friends CPR class is designed for the layperson wanting to know CPR and choking-rescue skills. No testing is required. This class is not for those requiring certification cards for job or school requirements. Fee for the two-hour class is $10. Registration deadline is the day before your scheduled class.

  • Holland Firefighter’s Ball set for Feb. 18

    aHOLLAND – The Holland Volunteer Fire Department will host its 22nd annual Firefighter’s Ball Feb. 18 at the Huntingburg Event Center, 110 E. 14th St., Huntingburg. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. EST and a meal catered by Meyer Catering will be served at 6 p.m.
    Music will be provided by Fire & Ice beginning at 7 p.m. A cash bar will be provided all evening by Happy Hour Sports Bar. Tickets for the ball are $20 each and may be purchased from any Holland firefighter or by calling the department treasurer at (812) 536-4301.

  • Winter Into Spring story times series at Perry County Public Library

    PERRY COUNTY – This spring, children are invited to attend Perry County Public Library’s continuing story time series, “Catch a Falling Star,” featuring the Berenstain bears and their many adventures, along with some of Papa’s misadventures.
    Story times feature weekly stories, crafts, songs, games and DVDs. The Winter Into Spring series beings the week of Feb. 21 and runs for 10 consecutive weeks, ending April 26.

  • VU Jasper Beta Sigma to sponsor chili cook-off

    JASPER – The Vincennes University Jasper Campus Beta Sigma Club will sponsor a chili cook-off fundraiser at 4:30 p.m. EST Feb. 9 at the Bistro in the Ruxer Student Center. Gift cards and trophies will be awarded for first place, second place and people’s choice.
    The competition will be open to anyone or group who wishes to compete and all types of chili are welcome. The chili will be served from the contestant’s own electric crock-pot and not prepared on site.

    TELL CITY – Mu Gamma chapter of Beta Sigma Phi will meet at 6 p.m. today at Iron Gate. Hostesses will be Pam Krieg, Rita Lawalin and Mary Snyder.
