  • Clay Day to be held at winery Saturday

    ROCKY POINT - An afternoon and evening of music, pottery, art and brick- oven-fired pizzas is planned for 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Blue Heron Winery in Rocky Point.

    Authors Michael Highfill and Mike and Kathy Finley of the recently released "Cannelton, Indiana Potteries" will be available and have copies of their book, displays and items for sale.

    They will also offer free pottery appraisals for those curious about the value and authenticity of their clay pieces.

  • Cannelcade of Music set for Friday

    CANNELTON - A second attempt at starting the second season of Cannelcade of Music summer events is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. Friday at the site of the former Sunlight Hotel at Washington and First streets.

    The first event this year was scheduled for May 9 but canceled due to rain. The location is a change from last year and is also the site of a portable miniature-golf course that will be open during the event.


    Tractor club to meet today
    BRANCHVILLE - The Ohio Valley Tractor Club will meet at 7 p.m. today at the Branchville Clubhouse. Final plans for Branchville Fun Day will be made. Members are encouraged to attend. Call 843-5716 for more information.

    Live music at Twilight Towers Friday
    TELL CITY - Leo Gronquist and his band will provide entertainment beginning at 6 p.m. Friday, June 20, in the Twilight Towers dining room in Tell City. The public is invited to attend.

  • River Sweep shoreline cleanup set for Saturday

    TELL CITY - River Sweep 2014 is scheduled for Saturday, along the shoreline of the Ohio River and its many tributaries. Volunteers are needed for this massive event.

    River Sweep extends more than 3,000 miles of shoreline will be combed for trash and debris.

    This is the largest environmental event of its kind and encompasses six states.

    Trash bags are provided and each volunteer will receive a free T-shirt.

  • VFW to hold annual summer party June 26

    TELL CITY - Veterans Of Foreign Wars Post 2939 Ladies Auxiliary will host an annual summer party Thursday, June 26, at 6:30 p.m. at the post home.

    Guests are asked to take a covered dish and all auxiliary members and VFW members attending the meeting are invited to attend.

  • Band Boosters auction set for Saturday

    LEOPOLD - Perry Central Band Boosters auction will begin at 5 p.m. Saturday at Dixon and Dixon Auction-Realty in Tell City.

    Items available for auction include jewelry with genuine gemstones, woodworking items, signed original artwork, chainsaw-carved woodwork, collectible dolls in original boxes, one life-sized with sequined dress, a violin and several gift certificates from local businesses.   • Moose Lodge hosting Summer Fest three days next week

    TELL CITY – Perry County’s Summer Fest picnic, sponsored by Moose Lodge 1424, will return to Zoercher-Bettinger Park Thursday through Saturday, June 26-28.

    Gene O’ Rides will operate rides all three days and a fireworks show is scheduled for the night of Saturday, June 28. Fireworks will begin shortly after 10 p.m.

    Moose members and Women of the Moose will serve chicken and pork-chop dinners all three days. Entertainment is planned for Friday and Saturday nights.

    There will be a cornhole tourney Saturday.

  • July 10 sheriff’s sale will be held at new detention center

    PERRY COUNTY – Perry County Sheriff Lee Chestnut reminds residents that the new Perry County Detention Center is open and that the former jail in Cannelton has been closed.

    He also reminds anyone interested in the July 10 sheriff’s sales that they will be held at the new facility, located behind the county courthouse at 2211 Herrmann St. in Tell City.

    The phone number for the detention center, 547-2441, is unchanged.

  • Derby set to welcome Riverfest fans Saturday

    DERBY – The Derby Community Association will welcome old friends and newcomers to its Derby Riverfest celebration Saturday, June 21, at Mulzer Park, located at the intersection of Indiana 66 and Indiana 70.

    Festival activities will include a morning 5-kilometer run and walk sponsored by the county parks department. Also planned are a flea market and community yard sales, an antique tractor and gas engine show, tractor pull for kids, free kids games, boat parade, car show and live entertainment with members of the band The Hiding.

    TELL CITY - The Perry County farmers market has kicked off its season. Hours are 8 a.m. until sellout Saturdays and 4 p.m. until sellout Wednesdays. Markets will continue through fall. Anyone wanting to learn more can call 547-7933.
