  • Benefits scheduled for Paul "Weasel" Miller

    TELL CITY - A benefit ride and special weekend have been scheduled for Paul "Weasel" Miller, who was severly injured in a workplace accident several weeks ago. The benefits will raise money to help offset costs while he is unable to work.

    Weasel Weekend will be held beginning at 6 p.m. Friday, July 11, at the Sportsman Inn in Tell City. A benefit ride will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 12, from Braunie's Tavern in Tell City.

    Participation in the ride will be $10 a person and the ride will begin at 11 a.m.

  • Summer camp available at WTE, Ferdinand YMCA

    TELL CITY - Summer camp is available for children in kindergarten through sixth grades during YMCA camps scheduled throughout the summer. Kindergartners and first-graders may attend Camp ACE; Camp HEART is for second and third grade and Camp S.T.A.R. for students in fourth through sixth grades.

  • Marketplace help to be offered June 20

    TELL CITY - Southwest Indiana Regional Council on Aging, SWIRCA & More, has certified Indiana navigators available to answer questions and assist with health care enrollment.

    This service is provided at no cost and the information provided is unbiased and confidential. Although the federal Marketplace open-enrollment period ended March 31, help is still available.

    A certified Indiana navigator will be at the Tell City Public Library from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, June 20. For more information, call Sarah Montgomery at (812) 431-3579 or (800) 253-2188.

  • Free concert at winery Friday

    ROCKY POINT - Blue Heron Winery in Cannelton invites the public for a free concert featuring the music of Dana and Susan Robinson of Asheville, N.C. from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 13 at the winery.

    The Robinsons have played their trademark brand of old-time and modern music for nearly 20 years, incorporating fiddle, guitar, banjo and mandolin. They have performed at Carnegie Hall and have been featured in Ken Burns' PBS documentaries such as "The National Parks" and "The Dust Bowl."

  • Branchville Fun Day set for June 28

    BRANCHVILLE - Branchville Fun Day will be held Saturday, June 28, at the Branchville Clubhouse.

    The Branchville Conservation Club and Ohio Valley Tractor Club will sell pulled-pork dinners, hamburgers and hotdogs beginning at noon.

    A cornhole contest will be held at 5 p.m. for $5 per person. Sign-up will be open until 4:30 p.m.

    Volleyball will begin at 1 p.m. for $5 per person or $30 per team. Sign-up will be open until 12:30 p.m.

    History of Ragtime concert today
    TELL CITY - The Perry County Public Library will present pianist and composer Deborrah Wyndham for an evening of ragtime music. The concert will begin at 6 p.m. today at the gazebo in City Hall Park. The event is free and open to the public.

  • Cannelton riders raise more than $2,500 for St. Jude's

    CANNELTON - Cannelton elementary students recently participated in the school's 36th annual St. Jude's Bike-athon.

    Overall, participants raised $2,585.35 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

    Devyn Powers, the winner for an individual raising the most money, collected $658 and won a bicycle, helmet, T-shirt, tote bag and a blanket.

    The second-place winner was fourth-grader Ethan Smith, who raised $321.05. In third place was fourth-grader Kyra Hemmings, who raised $175.

  • Derby steel guitar jamboree set for Sunday

    DERBY - Derby's fourth annual steel-guitar jamboree will be held Sunday, June 8, at Cedar Valley Park on Highway 70 in Derby.

    The jamboree will begin at noon and refreshments and food will be served throughout the day.

    Admission is free and everyone is welcome to attend this event.

  • Glow run-walk planned for June 21 for 11-year-old Elizabeth Cronin

    TELL CITY - A 2-mile glow run-walk is set for Saturday, June 21 for Elizabeth Cronin. Elizabeth, age 11, was diagnosed in late March with germ-cell cancer.

    She has completed three of four rounds of chemotherapy.

    The money raised from this fundraiser run-walk will help Elizabeth's family pay for travel and medical expenses.

    Registration will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Sunset Park with the race expected to start at 8 p.m. Entry forms can be picked up at New Directions, Everbody's, Farm Bureau Insurance, Hollinden Realty, and Southern Indiana Power.
