  • 65th meeting of soil and water conservation district Jan. 22

    BRISTOW – The Perry County Soil and Water Conservation District will host its 65th annual meeting Tuesday, Jan. 22, at the Bristow Community Center. The 6:30 p.m. meeting begins with dinner, followed by Joe Sullivan, warning coordination meteorologist for the U.S. National Weather Service. He will speak on recently climate history and climate change.
    Cost of the meal is $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and younger. Reservations are needed by 11 a.m. Jan. 18 and can be made by calling 547-4686.

    Legion to host New Year’s Eve dance
    TELL CITY – The Tell City American Legion Post 213 will host a New Year’s Eve dance open to the public from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. Dec. 31.

    Former governor to host book signing
    TELL CITY – Former Indiana Governor Edgar Whitcomb will hold a book signing from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Cinderella’s in Tell City.

  • Financial Peace course to begin Jan. 22

    PERRY COUNTY – Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University class will return to the county beginning Jan. 22.
    Participants will learn how to save for emergencies and purchases, budget the money they have, get completely out of debt, use insurance protection, invest and retire and understand how to use real estate and mortgages. Each class will be taught by Ramsey via video recording.

  • Crisis Connection training Dec. 17

    JASPER – Crisis Connection will provide a free training session Dec. 17 on stewards of children. Stewards of Children is a revolutionary interactive prevention program, developed by Darkness to Light Inc., a national child sexual abuse prevention organization. The program educates adults to prevent, recognize and react responsibly to child sexual abuse and to take proactive steps to protect children.
    The mission of Crisis Connection Inc. is to enlighten and empower people to adopt zero tolerance toward interpersonal, domestic and sexual violence.

    Parks and rec meeting Wednesday
    CANNELTON – The Perry County Parks and Recreation board will meet at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the courthouse annex in Cannelton.

  • PCMH to offer CPR classes

    PERRY COUNTY – CPR certification classes for Heartsaver AED, health-care providers or students will be held at the Perry County EMS-Rescue building, located near Perry County Memorial Hospital, Dec. 19.  

  • Give one last gift this holiday season, give blood Dec. 17

    PERRY COUNTY – The holiday season is here, and with it comes the exchange of gifts amongst family and friends. But many hospital patients have a gift on their wish list this year that only generous hearts can give: a blood donation.
    Once the hustle and bustle of the holidays subsides, the American Red Cross reminds people to give one last gift — give blood. A blood donation can be the most meaningful gift of the season.

    DAR Christmas party today
    CANNELTON – The Lafayette Spring Daughters of the American Revolution will conduct their annual Christmas party for members at 5:30 p.m. today.

  • Candlelight tour at Pioneer Village

    PERRY COUNTY – Allow yourself to be transported back in time to the simpler pleasures of the 19th century as you wander through the wooded winter landscape of Shubael Little Pioneer Village, guided only by the soft glow of lanterns and candles.
    A tour of the Perry County attraction is scheduled for 2 to 9 p.m. Saturday.
    Enjoy the voices of carolers cutting through the crisp evening air as you savor the anticipation of what you’ll find at each of the candlelit cabins.
