  • Jams and jellies workshop set for June 1

    TELL CITY – Learning to make delicious jams and jellies is a simple process, according to a hands-on workshop Purdue Extension will host, titled “Let’s Make Strawberry Jam.”

    The course is intended to help participants learn all the basics of safely preserving those delicious fruits. Scheduled for June 1, at 5:30 p.m., the workshop will be held at the Perry County Extension Office. The cost is $5 per person.

  • Tell City’s JFK Pool set to open June 1

    TELL CITY – The JFK Pool in Tell City will open Wednesday, June 1, at noon for the 2016 summer season.

    Hours for opening day will be noon to 5 p.m. Regular pool hours for the remainder of the season will be 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays. The only exception will be Monday, July 4, when the pool will be open from noon to 5 p.m.

  • Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars post plan holiday-weekend tributes

    PERRY COUNTY – A week from today, Monday, May 30, the nation will observe Memorial Day, a day to reflect and honor the many soldiers who served our country and protected our freedom. 

    Memorial Day ceremonies for deceased area veterans, including service members killed during active duty, will take place Sunday and Monday, May 29-30.

    Twilight Towers yard sale May 21

     

    TELL CITY – Twilight Towers will hold its annual yard sale fundraiser on Saturday, May 21, beginning at 7 a.m. The event will take place in the dining room, located at 1648 10th St. in Tell City.

    There will also be a biscuits and gravy breakfast. The cost for breakfast is $2 for a full order and $1 for a half order. Coffee, milk and orange juice will cost 50 cents. There will also be a bake sale and quilt fundraiser. Everyone is welcome.

    There will also be a biscuits and gravy breakfast. The cost for breakfast is $2 for a full order and $1 for a half order. Coffee, milk and orange juice will cost 50 cents. There will also be a bake sale and quilt fundraiser. Everyone is welcome.

     

  • Honeybee swarm workshop Tuesday

    PERRY COUNTY – With warmer spring weather and a profusion of blooming flowers providing ample resources, honeybees throughout the region are swarming, looking for a place to start a new hive. The prospect of starting a new hive through swarm catching is exciting, but how do you go about catching a swarm, and what do you do once it’s caught?

    On Tuesday, May 17, Bill Gibson and other experienced beekeepers will discuss strategies for catching swarms and managing newly caught swarms for success. 

  • Local author to give away two e-books

    PERRY COUNTY – Children’s author and Perry County resident Kenneth Edward Barnes will offer two of his books for free online from May 12-16.

    The two titles are “Kenny’s Collection of Children’s Stories,” which consists of jokes, riddles, poems and three short plays, and “The Lost Land of Andreus,” which is an updated version of one of Barnes’ bound released books “Invasion of the Dregs.”

    Barnes has also created a video for Real TV in 2000, which can be found on YouTube and GodTube.

  • Paint Perry County Purple event kicks off May 16

    PERRY COUNTY – The American Cancer Society is seeking businesses and organizations to get involved in the Relay For Life movement by selling purple butterflies and putting up purple-themed displays in storefronts from May 16 to June 8. Purple is the signature color of the American Cancer Society Relay For Life program, which represents all cancers.
