  • Dodgeball tourney Feb. 26

    TELL CITY – Big Brothers-Big Sisters of Perry and Spencer counties will host the second annual dodgeball tourney on Sunday, Feb. 26, at Tell City High School.

    The tourney will begin at noon. Teams of six people are welcome to join in the fun. Cost is $150 per team with all proceeds benefiting children served by local Big Brothers Big Sisters programs.

  • Community Events; Jan. 23

    Perry Central boater safety course

     

    LEOPOLD – There will be a boater safety course offered at Perry Central School beginning Feb. 13, 14 and 15 at 6 p.m. each evening.

    The topics of discussion will be navigation rules and boating safety laws. A Certification Card can be obtained if all requirements are met.

    The class will be taught by Indiana Conservation officer Zac Howerton.  There is no charge. For those who would like to register for this class, call Dixie Dickerson at (812) 843-5122.

  • Calligraphy workshop offered in May

    ST. MEINRAD – A five-day calligraphy workshop, titled “Deepening Your Art through Daily Practice I,” will be offered on May 1-5 at Saint Meinrad Archabbey in St. Meinrad.

    The workshop instructor will be Laurie Doctor, who has taught calligraphy on the university level for more than 25 years. She is an international exhibitor and instructor. Although this is a workshop concentrating on calligraphy, Laurie conducts her classes in a retreat-like atmosphere of reflective silence.

    Essential Oils class Jan. 25

     

    The Villas at Oakwood will host a class on the use of essential oils Wednesday, Jan. 25, at 5 p.m. at the Club House. Dinah Harpenau will teach how participants can use essential oils in their daily lives.

    This is a free class open to the community.

  • Relay for Life 2017 season beginning for Perry County

    PERRY COUNTY – American Cancer Society is calling on all community members to participate in the annual Relay For Life of Perry County, on June 17, at City Hall Park, Tell City. The Relay For Life movement is the world’s largest fundraising event to save lives from cancer. Uniting communities across the globe, the event celebrates people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and take action for lifesaving change.

  • Two-day ATV safety training course begins Jan. 17

    EVANSVILLE – A free two-day all-terrain vehicle safety training course, presented by multi-state 4-H safety coordinator Mike Klumpp, is available for local law enforcement, EMS, educators teaching grades 2 and up, Purdue Extension, Department of Natural Resources, youth groups, departments of health, Boy and Girl Scouts, Safe Kids coalitions, fire departments or state agencies.

  • EverBody’s to launch 15th Biggest Loser contest Jan. 11

    TELL CITY – EverBody’s Fun and Fitness will hold the 15th season of its Biggest Loser weight loss contest from January 11 to March 22.

    The deadline for registration is Jan. 4. The price for members is $20 for members and $145 for guests, which includes a 10 week membership.

    The contest includes many facets of the popular NBC show, including teams, coaches, weekly tips, accountability, motivation, weekly weigh-ins, last chance workouts and team workouts.

  • Twilight Towers New Year’s Eve dance

    TELL CITY – Twilight Towers will host a New Year’s Eve Dance Dec. 31 from 9 p.m. to midnight in the dining room, located at 1648 10th St., Tell City.

    The entertainment will be provided by Country Sunshine Band.

    Donations will be accepted. Everyone is invited to attend.

  • St. Meinrad Chamber of Commerce plans 52-week raffle

    ST. MEINRAD – The St. Meinrad Chamber of Commerce is planning a yearlong series of drawings through a 2017 gun and prize raffle that will raise much-needed funds for the group.

    The organization, which also does work in the community as the St. Meinrad Area Revitalization Team, works to maintain three properties in or near St. Meinrad, the town ballfield, the St. Meinrad Park near the community center and Camp Blackhawk Boy Scout Camp.

  • Notre Dame folk choir performing in Ferdinand Jan. 15

    FERDINAND – A concert of sacred music will be performed at Monastery Immaculate Conception Church in Ferdinand by the University of Notre Dame Folk Choir on Sunday, Jan. 15, at 7 p.m. Eastern time.

    The public is invited to attend. Admission is free.

    The choir will present a varied program, including music from South Africa, the theme song from World Youth Day in Poland, Stopford, Gjeilo, and by four talented composers in the choir.
