  • TNR program May 20

    PERRY COUNTY – County residents are asked to help the Perry County Animal Shelter in controlling stray cats in the area with a trap, neuter and release program.
    The program is for stray cats only. Residents who are willing to capture a stray may take it to the shelter at 200 Herzeele St. in Cannelton between 5:30 and 6 a.m. May 20.  

  • Tell City Masonic Lodge car show set for May 12

    TELL CITY – Tell City Masonic Lodge will host its ninth annual car show May 12 in City Hall Park. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. and continue to noon.  Judging takes place at 11 a.m. with Top 10 awards for vehicle models 1990 and newer and Top 25 awards for those 1989 and older.
    There will also be trophies for best GM, Ford and Mopar exhibits as well as a Peoples Choice Award. The winner of that award, voted upon by the public, will include a large trophy and $100 in cash. There will other special trophies awarded.

    Tell City National, TCB Bank reunion
     PERRY COUNTY – Former employees of Tell City National Bank or TCB Bank will meet at Ponderosa Steak House in Tell City at 6 p.m. Tuesday. Anyone who work-ed at TCNB or TCB is invited, along with spouses.
    Everyone will be responsible for their own dinner and drinks. Those attending are invited to take along photos of their children, grandchildren and other important milestones in life.

  • Local libraries to launch children summer reading programs, activities

    PERRY COUNTY – Children ages birth through sixth grade are invited to explore all things underground this summer as the Perry County Public Library presents “Dig Into Reading.”
    Activities will include the topics of dinosaurs, construction vehicles, animals that live underground, mud, caves, rocks, seeds, gardening and more.

  • Rome Dogwood Fest plans announced

    ROME – The annual Rome Dogwood Festival will kick off April 28 at the old courthouse in Rome.
    Fried-chicken dinners will be available beginning at 11 a.m. Meals will include fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, bread, slaw and homemade dessert with tea or lemonade.

  • Kayaking for beginners Saturday

    BIRDSEYE – Have you ever wished you knew how to kayak or wanted to try it out before buying your own equipment?
    Join the Patoka Lake Interpretive Naturalist at the beach for a beginners kayaking lesson at 2 p.m. EDT April 20.
    During this short lesson, participants will get to try their hands at a few different kayaks and paddles. Participants will learn what gear is needed and the best places to paddle on Patoka.
    All equipment including life jackets will be provided, just take friends and family.
