  • August events at the Lincoln State Park Nature Center

    LINCOLN CITY – There will be many events held at the Lincoln State Park Nature Center on the weekends during August. At 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 14, will be Lincoln’s Landscape and at 1 p.m. attendants can make candles in crockpots. Both are in the Nature Center. 

    At 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, Snakes Alive, a program at the Nature Center, will allow visitors to learn about some of the snakes of Lincoln State Park. At 2 p.m. will be Abe’s Indiana, where visitors can learn what Indiana was like in 1816 when Abe moved here.

    Free health screenings today


    TELL CITY – Perry County Memorial Hospital offers free blood-pressure and glucose (sugar) screenings every Tuesday morning from 8:30 to 10 a.m. inside the Tell City Wal-Mart.

    The hospital will provide blood-pressure, glucose and total-cholesterol screenings from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, at the Village Apartments, 1619 14th St. in Tell City and from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, at St. Meinrad Catholic Church’s Parish Hall.

  • First United picnic set for Aug. 16

    TELL CITY – Tell City First United Methodist Church will host its annual church picnic at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16, at Mulzer’s Camp just west of Troy. Kirby Stailey will once again provide musical entertainment to accompany great food, fun, fellowship and worship.

    The meal will begin around 5 p.m. Those interested in attending are encouraged to RSVP the church office by sending email to tcumc@psci.net or by calling (812) 547-2800. Everyone is welcome to attend.

  • Martin’s Cloak Cruise for a Cause to take place Aug. 23

    ST. MEINRAD – Martin’s Cloak Cruise for a Cause will be held Sunday, Aug. 23.

    Motorcycles, Jeeps, cars, trucks are welcome for this event, sponsored by the Saint Meinrad Knights of Columbus. Hamburgers will be available for purchase before the cruise.

    Sign in will begin at 9:30 a.m. CDT and vehicles will depart at 11 a.m.

    Cost to participate is $10 per driver and $10 per passenger.

    There will be a half pot drawing. A meal will be included in and served following the cruise at the K of C.

  • Horseman’s Club show and benefit set for Aug. 22

    TELL CITY – Southern Indiana Horseman’s Club will host a horse show and benefit at 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22. The event is located at 9455 Summer Road, approximately six miles north of Tell City on Indiana 37, signs will be posted.

    The show is also a fundraiser for Stir-N-Up Hope Therapeutic Riding Program, a not-for-profit organization that provides free therapeutic riding sessions to handicapped individuals from southern Indiana and northern Kentucky.

  • Santa Claus Optimist Club to host fund raiser golf scramble Aug. 23

    SANTA CLAUS – The Optimist Club of Santa Claus will host a fund raising golf scramble Sunday, Aug. 23, at Christmas Lake Golf Course in Santa Claus. Men and women are invited to participate.

    The event will start at 11:30 am CDT with Heritage Hills High School Octagon and Heritage Hills Middle School Junior Optimist Clubs hosting golf challenges on and around the putting green. A shotgun start will follow at noon.

    Prizes for first, second and third place; individual longest putt, closest to the pin and random drawing prizes will be awarded after dinner.

    Blood drive Sunday at St. John’s Lutheran


    EVANSTON – The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive from 8 a.m. until noon Sunday, Aug. 9, in the fellowship hall of St. John’s Lutheran Church. Blood donors will need to take identification cards.

  • Fraternal Order of Police Jeep, 4X4 ride set for Aug. 29

    TELL CITY – Perry County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 137 will host an inaugural Jeep and 4X4 ride Saturday, Aug. 29, at the Perry County 4-H Fairgrounds. The event will begin with check-in at 10 a.m., with the ride getting underway at noon. There will be raffles, prizes, food before and after the ride, police-canine demonstrations and, weather permitting, a touchdown by an Air Evac medical helicopter. Shirts will also be available for purchase. The grand prize will be a set of new tires courtesy of TTR.

    Horseshoe tourneys planned Aug. 7-8



    TELL CITY – Zoercher-Bettinger Park at 10th and Watt Streets will host Schweizer Fest horseshoe tourneys Aug. 7 and 8.

    A bring-your-own-partner doubles tourney will be held Aug.7. Sign-in for the event begins at 6 p.m. with the competition starting at 7 p.m.

    A two-man draw-for-partner tourney will be held 5 p.m. Aug. 8. Sign-in will begin at 4:30 p.m.
