  • Indiana Youth Institute reducing environmental hazards for children

    MARENGO – The environment where children learn and play can significantly impact their health because on a pound for pounds basis, children breathe more air, drink more water and eat more food than adults.
    The Indiana Youth Institute will host a forum that will explore how to be more aware of environmental threats as children’s behaviors expose them to more chemicals through crawling, putting items in their mouths and playing on the floor.

  • After prom plans chili lunch, dodgeball tourney

    TELL CITY – Tell City After Prom will host a fun-filled afternoon Feb. 10 at Tell City Junior-Senior High School to benefit the high-school after prom. 
    A dodgeball tourney and chili lunch will be held, with serving starting at 11 a.m. The meal will include chili, a hot dog or chili dog, des-sert and drink. Cost is $7.

    VFW open house Saturday

    TELL CITY – Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2939 in Tell City will host an open house and buffet breakfast Saturday at the post home.

  • TCJSHS incoming freshman night

    TELL CITY – Tell City Junior-Senior High School will host a freshman informational meeting at 6 p.m. today at the school.
    This meeting will be for current eighth-graders. The school staff encourages parents and students to attend as they will explain diploma tracks, courses available for freshmen and finding success in high school.

    Bunco night at Cannelton Legion
    CANNELTON – The Cannelton Legion Auxiliary will sponsor a bunco night Jan. 29. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and games will start at 6:30.
    Entry fee is a $5 donation.

  • Dance auditions for ‘Cinderella’

    CHRISNEY  – Children’s Center for Dance Education will have open auditions for “Cinderella” Jan. 20, at Elizabeth’s Main Street Dance on 411 Main St., Rockport.
    Audition times are 1:30 to 2:15 p.m. for ages 4-6; 2:15 to 3 p.m. for ages 2-9, and 3 to 3:30 pm for age 10 and older.
    Those who have been on pointe one year or longer may bring pointe shoes. The  performance of “Cinderella” is set for April 13 at South Spencer High School.

  • Free HIV testing offered monthly at county health department

    PERRY COUNTY – Did you know that someone becomes infected with HIV every 9.5 minutes?
    Get tested and know your status, urges the AIDS Resource Group of Evansville, which offers free and confidential HIV testing at the Perry County Health Department the second Tuesday of every month. Hours are 1 to 3 p.m.

    Annual Ferdinand prom, bridal expo
    FERDINAND – The 11th annual Ferdinand prom and bridal expo will be held from noon to 4 p.m. EST Jan. 13 at the Ferdinand Community Center.
    More than 30 businesses will be available to help make proms and weddings special. Participants will be able to sample catered foods and cakes. Those attending will also be able to register for prizes.  
    A fashion show will be provided by Cinderella’s of Tell City.
