  • First of two firearms courses Saturday

    TELL CITY – C&J Firearm Academy will host a National Rifle Association basic pistol course at 8 a.m. Saturday and Aug. 10 that will last approximately eight hours, and will include classroom and range time.
    The course will be taught by a local NRA-certified instructor and will cover the basics of safe gun handling and shooting. The course will emphasize the safe and proper use of pistols.

  • Perry Central band meeting, picnic July 31

    LEOPOLD – The Perry Central Marching Band will host a mandatory meeting and picnic July 31.
    The picnic will immediately follow Band Camp at 4 p.m. that day. Hot dogs and drinks will be provided.  Those attending may take a side dish or snacks. The mandatory meeting will start at 4:30 p.m. The group will discuss band camp fees and concessions, meet the band director, learn about the boosters and discuss the calendar for the year.  
    There will be a drawing for prizes. Winners must be present to claim their prize.

  • Rome Masons dinner, awards Saturday

    ROME – Rome Lodge 133 Free and Accepted Masons will hold a quarterly supper at 7 p.m. Saturday.
    This is a carry-in meal and all Masons, family and friends are invited.
    Following the meal, there will be a presentation of the Lewis Awards. This is a special award given by the Yorkrite to fathers and sons that are Masons in the same jurisdiction.  
    Rome Lodge 133 has a good percentage of members as fathers and sons, organizers said, and this should be a great evening of fellowship.

    CANNELTON – Youth Refuge will hold its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the community room at the Cotton Mill Apartments in Cannelton.

  • Entries for annual Schweizer Fest pageant available until Tuesday

    TELL CITY – Applicants are sought for the 2013 Schweizer Fest page-ant. Applications are ready and available at Cinderella’s, 922 Main St. Tell City.
    Age groups this year are as follows: Mini Prin-cess, girls 2 to 3 years of age; Little Princess, 4 to 5 years of age Miss Prin-cess, girls 6 to 8 years of age; Mini Prince, boys 2 to 3 years of age; Little Mister, boys 4 to 5 years of age; Mister Prince, 6 to 8 years of age; Junior Miss, girls 9 to 12 years of age; Teen Miss, girls 13 to 16 years of age; Miss Queen, girls 17 to 22 years of age.

  • PCMH to offer various CPR classes to public

    TELL CITY – CPR classes for Heartsaver AED, basic life support for health-care providers, family and friends and first-aid classes will be held at the Perry County EMS - Rescue building, located near Perry County Memorial Hospital.
    The Heartsaver CPR with AED certification class is scheduled for 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. July 18. Class content includes adult, child and infant CPR,  automated external defibrillation and choking rescue skills.  Participants must be able to pass a skills performance evaluation. Class fee is $40.

    Parks and Rec meeting Wednesday
    CANNELTON – The Perry County Parks and Recreation board will meet at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the courthouse annex in Cannelton.

    CHS 1983
    CANNELTON – The Cannelton High School Class of 1983 will hold its 30-year reunion at 4 p.m. Saturday.
    The reunion will be at the Cannelton American Legion, 516 Knight St.
