  • Weekend Spencer County Relay for Life events

    Golf scramble Saturday
    ENGLISH – Karen’s Angels third annual golf scramble against cancer will be held May 11 at the old English Golf Course in English. There will be a shot-gun start at 8 a.m. EDT. The cost includes 18 holes of golf, cart rental and hamburgers.
    To register, call Jennifer O’ Brien at (812) 489-1496. All proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society.

  • Knights Tootsie Roll drive

    TELL CITY – Tell City Knights of Columbus Council 1172 will accept donations for its Tootsie Roll drive for the mentally challenged citizens of Perry County May 31 and June 1.
    Bob Hackle and Terry Schaefer are co-chairing the event and encourage the public to donate at one of four locations: Tell City Wal-Mart, McDonald’s, Noble’s IGA, Fifth Third and Cash Saver. All money raised stays in Perry County.

    CANNELTON – The Perry County Parks and Recreation board will meet at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Riverside Park in Magnet.

  • As fair nears, Miss Spencer County candidates sought

    SPENCER COUNTY – The Spencer County Fair Inc. has set the date for this year’s Miss Spencer County and Miss Teen pageants. The 2013 event will begin at 6 p.m. June 10 at South Spencer High School.
    “This is the perfect time of year for contestants to start planning. While they are shopping for prom dresses, they can be looking for a dress that will work for both the prom and the pageant,  pageant director Debbie Barrett said.

    The children of Charles and Molly are Bessie Leigh (Harper) Wright, Clarence Edwin Harper, James Silas Harper and Charles Augustus “Gus” Harper.
    Children from Mattison Franklin Riddle and Molly Riddle are Olive M. Riddle and Howard F. Riddle.

    CANNELTON – The Lafayette Spring Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will host a meeting at 6 p.m. today at the Perry County Museum in Cannelton.

  • Rome annual flea markets resume Saturday

    ROME – The Rome Community Center will begin to host its second annual flea markets and trade days through summer and fall months this year. The market will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 11. Others will be held the second Saturday of each month until September.
    Everyone is welcome and vendors may include new and used items, crafters, antiques, artists and produce. No food vendors will be accepted. Space is available for $10.
