    Quilt show planned July 17


    ST. MEINRAD – St. Meinrad Catholic Church will hold a quilt show Sunday July 17, from 10 a.m. to noon at the church.

    The public is invited to view and vote on the quilts to be given away at the fall picnic, which is set to take place Sept. 18.

  • ‘A. Lincoln: A Pioneer Tale’ returning for a limited six-performance run in July

    LINCOLN CITY – After a quiet 2015 (as far as theatrical productions are concerned), the Lincoln Amphitheatre’s signature event, “A. Lincoln: A Pioneer Tale,” is returning for a limited six performance run July 7-9 and 14-16.  All performances will begin at 7 p.m. central time.

    The performances mark not only a celebratory return to the Amphitheatre’s stage, but also serve as recognition and celebration of the bicentennial year for the state of Indiana, as well as the bicentennial of the Lincoln family’s arrival to southern Indiana.

  • Local Fireworks Shows

    Moose Lodge 1424 hosted its fireworks show last Saturday in Zoercher-Bettinger Park. But there are other opportunities to celebrate Independence Day with a bang. Other fireworks shows planned are as follows:


    • Owensboro, Ky., Smothers Park in the city’s downtown, Saturday, July 2, 9:15 p.m.

    • Derby, Sunday, July 3, 30 minutes past dusk, with viewing in Mulzer Park in Derby. Show will begin at approximately 8:45 p.m.

    •Vastwood Park, Hawesville, Ky., 9 p.m. Monday, July 4.

  • Icon exhibit on display at Archabbey

    ST. MEINRAD – Saint Meinrad Archabbey Library Gallery will host an exhibit of icons entitled “The Twelve Great Feasts” by Chicago artist Joseph Malham.

    The exhibit runs from July 3 through Aug. 31.

    Joseph Malham is an iconographer who has been artist in residence at St. Gregory the Great Church on Chicago’s Andersonville neighborhood for the past 15 years. Malham graduated from Loyola University with a major in history and a minor in art history and studied classical architecture and Renaissance art in Rome.

  • March of Dimes Baby Contest to return to 4-H fair for tenth year

    PERRY COUNTY – The 10th annual March of Dimes Baby Contest at the 4-H Fair will be held Saturday, July 9.

    Registration will take place at 9 a.m. under the shelter next to the stage area. The contest will begin at 10 a.m. The theme this year is “Down on the Farm.”

    Age groups are 0 to 5 months, 6 to 11 months, 12 to 17 months, 18 to 23 months, 24 to 35 months, 36 to 47 months and 48 to 59 months.

    Trophies will be given to first and second place in each division and third place will be given a ribbon.

    Tractor group to meet today


    BRANCHVILLE – The Ohio Valley Tractor Association will hold its next meeting June 30, at 7 p.m., at the Branchville Clubhouse.

    TELL CITY – There will be a Free Kidney Smart Education class Tuesday, July 5, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Fifth Third Bank Community Room in Tell City.

  • Local beekeeping buzz growing

    PERRY COUNTY – Perry County is partnering with Perry County Beekeepers to offer a “bee”ginner beekeeping field day. The July 23 program will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Leopold Conservation Club located at 11612 Leopold Road, in Leopold. Guests are asked to take a bee coat and gloves and wear long pants for the live beehive demonstration.

    Free kidney class next week


    TELL CITY – There will be a Free Kidney Smart Education class Tuesday, July 5, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Fifth Third Bank Community Room in Tell City.

    The class is free and open to anyone that’s been diagnosed with kidney disease and family members are encouraged to attend with patients. For more information or to enroll in the class, contact DaVita Tell City Dialysis Center at (812) 547-1140.

    Lunch and Learn event today


    TELL CITY – The Villas will host a Lunch and Learn session Thursday, June 23, at noon at the Villa Club House. Adaptive Healthcare representatives will discuss services Adaptive delivers in comprehensive home care solutions for the community.

    Adaptive will also hold a free blood-pressure clinic from 9 to 10:30 a.m., prior to the Lunch and Learn.

  • Schweizer Fest Pageant now accepting entries

    PERRY COUNTY – The Perry County Schweizer Fest Pageant will be held July 31, at 6 p.m., at Community Christian Church, located at 821 10th Street, Tell City.
