  • Book club to celebrate 75 years with book review, guest Eddie Price

    TELL CITY – The Friday Book Club will host a special book review to celebrate its 75th year at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Tell City Historical Museum at Ninth and Franklin streets in Tell City.
    The guest speaker will be Eddie Price of Hawes-ville, Ky., who is a well-known author throughout Kentucky. He recently earned the readers-favorite award in the historical-fiction category at the 2013 International Book Award contest for his first book, “Widder’s Landing.” The book is now in its third printing.

  • 68th annual Cannelton Fall Fest set for Oct. 24

    CANNELTON – The Cannelton Elementary Parent-Teacher Organization will sponsor its 68th annual Cannelton Fall Festival from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 24 in the Cannelton Community Center.  

    Queen candidates for this year’s festival, pictured below are kindergartner Chloe Hale, first-grader Taylor DuPont, second-grader Makayla Reed, third-grader Claire Sabelhaus, fourth-grader Maggie Dawson and fifth-grader Bre’ Noland.

  • Twilight Towers Christmas bazaar Oct. 26

    TELL CITY – Twilight Towers will hold its annual Christmas bazaar Oct. 26 in the dining room starting at 6 a.m.
    There will be a biscuits-and-gravy breakfast available. A full order will be $2 and a half order will cost $1. Coffee, milk and orange juice will be 50 cents each. A bake sale will also be held during the bazaar. Everyone is welcome to attend.

    Bicentennial meeting planned for Tuesday

  • Flu-shot clinic starts today

    TELL CITY – Drs. Marcrum, Bailey and Kleeman, 421 Seventh St. in Tell City, announce it will host a flu-shot clinic today, Tuesday and Wednesday.  
    Hours will be from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the office closed from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. daily for lunch. Cost is $35.

  • Baby Bloomers benefit set for Oct. 20

    TELL CITY – Baby Bloomers Child Care will host a country-western hoe-down fall pageant at 2 p.m. Oct. 20 at Dixon’s Auction House.
    Boys and girls ages birth to 18 years old are invited to participate. Contestants are welcome to share a special talent, as well. Prizes will be awarded to everyone who participates.
    Contestants are required to wear country-western attire.
    Those wishing to watch the pageant are asked to take toiletries and canned goods as donations. All proceeds from the pageant will benefit the Ronald McDonald House.

  • Perry Central schools to host Rachel’s Challenge assemblies Oct. 31

    LEOPOLD – Perry Central community schools will host a series of assemblies Oct. 31 as a part of Rachel’s Challenge, a program that promotes individuals to replace acts of violence, bullying and negativity with acts of respect, kindness and compassion.
    The event will take place in the Perry Central main gymnasium beginning at 8:45 a.m. with preschool through third-graders, followed by fourth- through sixth-graders at 10 a.m., seventh- and eighth-graders at 12:30 p.m. and freshman through seniors at 2 p.m.

  • Veterans Day races sponsored by Perry County Marines, Perry County Museum

    PERRY COUNTY – In honor of Veterans Day Nov. 9, the Perry County Marines, along with the Perry County Museum, will host the Semper Five 5K and the Marine Tough 10K.
    Runners and walkers are encouraged to participate. Registration for each race is $15 through Oct. 31 and $20 from Nov.1 through Nov. 9. Each runner and walker will receive a T-shirt the day of the race. Registration forms are available at www.per-rycountymuseum.org, Lawson’s Bar and Grill or by calling Lena Joyal at 619-0708.
