  • St. John’s to host dinner, euchre tourney April 18

    EVANSTON – St. John’s Lutheran Church in Evanston will host a euchre tourney and dinner beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday, April 18, at the church.

    Everyone is invited for an evening of fun and fundraising. The Indiana Guatemala mission team is again raising funds for supplies for the people of Guatemala City and nearby communities. All money raised will go toward school supplies and hygiene kits.

    Dinner will include roast pork, sauerkraut (separate from the pork), mashed potatoes and gravy, sides and salads and homemade yeast rolls and desserts.

    THE MU GAMMA CHAPTER of Beta Sigma Phi will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 9 (today), at Evangelical United Church of Christ in the fellowship hall. Hostesses for the evening will be Sheilda Schmitt, Susan Harpenau, Tina Ziegelgruber and Vicki Whitehead.

     

    THE ST. MICHAEL ST. ANN SOCIETY will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, April 20, in Father Marendt Hall. There will be a business meeting, bingo and refreshments. Hostesses will be Rachel Schaefer, Pauline Thorn, Virginia White and Helen Wittman.

     

  • Fundraiser fitness walk-runs planned for April 12, 18

    TELL CITY – During the week of April 12 through 18, local fitness walks are planned that will raise money for Catholic Charities of Tell City and Stepping Stones Preschool in Leopold.

    On Sunday, April 12,  a fitness walk to benefit Catholic Charities of Tell City will begin at noon in the City Hall Park.

    A minimum donation of $10 per person or $25 for families of three or more is requested.

    THE DAUGHTERS OF ISABELLA will host activities Tuesday, April 7, at St. Paul Church’s parish hall. An open meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will be followed by a carry-in dinner. The D of I circle will provide meat and drinks. Committee members will provide desserts. Members of the committee are Marjory Roberts, Elaine Rice, Marjorie Roberts, Sara Rogier and Anita Sanders. Anyone unable to attend but who has service hours to report should call Mary Seibert at (812) 547-4847 or Becky Hagedorn at (812) 836-2805.

    Moose Lodge dinners available Friday

    TELL CITY – Tell City Moose Lodge 1424 will sell barbecue-chicken and pork-chop dinners beginning at 3:30 p.m. Friday, April 10, at the corner of 12th and Tell streets. Cost is $8 per plate and includes a meal of a half of a chicken or a 1¼ inch thick pork chop, creek-fried potatoes and green beans.

  • Golf scramble to benefit American Cancer Society

    JASPER – The fifth-annual Karen’s Angels golf scramble will be held Saturday, April 18, at Buffalo Trace Golf Course, formerly Jasper Municipal Course.

    The scramble will begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Eastern time. Costs of $50 per person to be paid the day of the event includes 18 holes of golf, cart rental and a hotdog. Drinks will be available.

    Participants must register team names by April 13. There will be prizes for first, second and last place and for longest drive, longest putt and closest to the pin.

  • Country musician John Berry to perform free concert at Old Panther Creek Baptist

    WHITESVILLE, Ky. – Just about any country-music lover will know the name John Berry. His performance of the title track of the 1995 CD “O Holy Night” has led to his most enduring legacy. Today, his tenor voice remains an instrument to share God’s love with his audience.

    Berry will perform in concert at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, May 17, at Old Panther Creek Baptist Church to help the church celebrate its 200th anniversary homecoming celebration.

    JASPER – The Patoka Valley AIDS Community Action Group and the student activities office at Vincennes University Jasper Campus will host the annual Patoka Valley AIDS walk in Jasper Saturday, April 18.
