  • Blueberries topic of Sept. 15 workshop

    The Purdue Master Gardeners will host a September program at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, at Happy Hollow Blueberry Patch in Hawesville, Ky.

    Josh McCartney will discuss how to raise blueberries successfully in southern Indiana and Kentucky. McCartney and his family started Happy Hollow Blueberry in 2009 but the first successful harvest, according to Josh, was in 2011.   • Help rescued horses Sept. 12 at Orscheln’s

    TELL CITY – On Saturday, Sept. 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Horse Rescue South will have rescue horses at Orschlen Farm and Home. Local balloon artist Sheila Rearden will be on hand as will Robin Thomas and Carl Young’s petting zoo with miniature donkeys, a goat and a rabbit. Rescued horses and miniature ponies will be available for adoption.

    Silas Quick will offer mule wagon rides, Tool Man Tim will have a jumping balloon and walking tacos and drinks will be available. The group is selling raffle tickets for walking sticks made by Chris Kleeman.

  • Free movie Friday Sept. 25

    FERDINAND – The next free movie Friday with the Sisters of St. Benedict of Ferdinand will be Sept. 25, with the showing of The Perfect Stranger at 1:30 p.m. Eastern time in St. Gertrude Hall at the monastery.

    John Williams Memorial Ride Sept. 19


    PERRY COUNTY – The seventh annual John Williams Memorial Ride will be held Saturday, Sept. 19.  Registration is from 9 to 11 a.m. at Braunie’s Bar in Tell City. 

    All bikes out at 11 and will return by 4:30.  All vehicles welcome.  All proceeds will benefit the John Williams Memorial Scholarship, a scholarship of the Perry County Community Foundation.

    Euchre tourney at Fulda Sportsman Sept. 12


    FULDA – The Fulda Sportsman Club will host a euchre tourney at the club, in Fulda Saturday, Sept. 12.  Doors will open at 6 p.m. with play beginning at 7 p.m. All times are CDT. Prizes will be awarded at the end of play and refreshments will be available. The public is invited to attend.

  • Steel Guitar jamboree Sept. 20 at Derby’s Cedar Valley Park

    DERBY – The fifth annual Southern Indiana Steel Guitar Jamboree will be held Sunday, Sept. 20, at Cedar Valley Park, located along Indiana 70 near Derby. The event will begin at 11 a.m. and will continue throughout the day. Admission is free.

    Those attending should take their own lawn chairs. Refreshments and food will be served all day.

    Some of the area’s finest musicians will perform and will also serve as a backup band, including Smoky McCoy, Hank Norton and Eddie Milan.

    Sons of the Legion to sell pork chop dinners Sept. 12


    TELL CITY – Tell City Sons of the American Legion Squadron 213 will sell pork chop dinners beginning at 11 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at the post home.

    Dinners will include a pork chop, creek fries and baked beans. Cost will be $8 and winners will be available for dine-in or carry out.


    10th Street Fall Fair set for Sept. 19


  • Miles 4 Missions 5k-10k fundraiser set for Sept. 19

    TELL CITY – WOW-SIS, the women’s ministry of the Tell City United Methodist Church, will hold the third annual Miles 4 Missions 5k/10k Run & Walk at 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19.

    Cost is $20 per person, $10 for children ages 10-15 or $50 for a family of three or more. Registration forms are available at the church office, online at tellcityumc.org,  EverBody’s or New Directions.

    Register by Sept. 4 to be guaranteed a shirt on race day.

    Proceeds will help support the WOW-SIS’s mission projects.

    K of C to sponsor comedy show Friday


    TELL CITY – The Knights of Columbus will host an evening of comedy with The Pop Up Comedy Club Friday, Aug. 28, at the K of C, located at 947 11th St. in Tell City.

    The doors will open at 7 p.m. with the show beginning at 8. Featured comedians include Keith McGill, as seen on CMT, Laughs on Fox and The Bob and Tom Show; Donna Watts and Tim McClendon.

    First Methodist offering fifth quarter Friday for youth


    TELL CITY – During every home football game for the Tell City Marksmen and Perry Central Commodores, First United Methodist Church will host a free event for high- school youth shortly after the game is over and lasting until midnight.
