  • Cruise-in for Kearstin set for May 21

    TELL CITY – The second annual Cruise-in for Kearstin will be held Saturday, May 21, beginning at 7 a.m. at Perry County Fairgrounds. Admission for onlookers will be $5 and the show car fee is $10.

    The top five best of each class, including cars, trucks, jeeps and bikes will be awarded, along with a kid’s choice award.

    Festivities include on-site wood carving with a raffle, bounce house, corn hole tournament, half-pot drawing and live music.

    Beard Cemetery accepting trustee applications

     

    BRISTOW – Anyone wanting to serve as a trustee for the Beard Cemetery, contact Jerry Beard at 22998 Blue Ridge Road in Bristow by May 15.

    Applicants must be 25 years of age or older and have relatives buried in the Beard Cemetery.

    An election will be held May 29 at the cemetery.

    TELL CITY – The VFW Auxiliary will have a yard sale Friday and Saturday, April 29 and 30, at 301 Main St.

    Anyone wanting to donate items for the yard sale is asked to drop them off at the VFW during business hours. For questions, call (812) 719-8255.

  • Animal Planet star to visit Hawesville Saturday

    HAWESVILLE – Hancock County Kentucky will have a special guest at a Saturday full of Coon Club activities.

    Neal James, a star of Animal Planet’s “Call of the Wildman” will attend the fair and be available to sign photos and meet fans.

    The day’s festivities will begin at 10 a.m., when a meet and greet with James will begin, and last until noon.

  • Kid’s Free Fishing Derby May 21 at German Ridge Pond

    PERRY COUNTY – If you’re a kid who likes to fish, or know a kid who might, the Hoosier National Forest invites you to the 21st annual Kid’s Fishing Derby at German Ridge Pond near Rome Saturday, May 21.  The event is free and will be open to all children ages 15 and under.

    The event is located within the German Ridge Recreation Area off State Road 66. Parking will be within the campground or day use area. Employees will be onsite to assist with the parking. Participants can walk or be shuttled from the parking areas to the fishing pond.

  • From plant to pizza ... Learn how to grow your dinner workshops planned

    PERRY COUNTY – Growing vegetables and herbs in small raised beds is easy and enjoyable.

    This three-part workshop sponsored by Purdue Extension-Perry County will allow participants to grow, harvest and prepare a variety of vegetables and herbs.

    Topics will include the basics of gardening in small spaces and preparing the soil and planting vegetables and herbs in a raised bed garden, discovering the art of cooking with fresh herbs, and harvesting herbs and vegetables and transforming them into delicious pizzas.

  • Locally sponsored Medicine Cabinet Cleanout Day set to return April 30

    TELL CITY – Medicine Cabinet Cleanout Day is Saturday April 30, from 8 a.m. to noon. The drop off location is Tell City Volunteer Fire Department. This is a chance for citizens to turn in expired or unused prescriptions and over-the-counter medication.

    Some points to consider:

    • Don’t flush medication. What is flushed could end up in the drinking water.

    • Prescription drugs are abused more frequently than illegal drugs.

    • 70 percent of teens obtain their drugs from friends or relatives homes.

  • Tell City Masonic Lodge hosting 10th car show May 1

    TELL CITY – Tell City Masonic Lodge 623, F&AM, will host its 10th annual car show Sunday, May 1, in City Hall Park. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. and will continue until noon. Judging will begin at 11 a.m. Top-10 awards will be given for entries 1990 and newer and top-24 awards will go to 1989 and older models. Other special trophies will be awarded, as will awards for best General Motors, Ford and Mopar entries. Along with the fun, there will be food and entertainment. Awards will be presented at approximately 2 p.m.
