  • Photo contest celebrates historic resources

    Help celebrate Indiana’s bicentennial this year by participating in the Department of Natural Resources’ Division of Historic Preservation & Archaeology’s annual photo contest to recognize Historic Preservation Month in May.

  • Lt. Gov. Sue Ellspermann to be speaker at 2016 Lincoln Day program

    LINCOLN CITY – Lt. Gov. Sue Ellspermann will be the featured speaker at the annual Lincoln Day program on Sunday, Feb. 7.

    The program will begin at 2 p.m. CST and will be held in the Abraham Lincoln Hall of Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial in Lincoln City.

    The 2016 Lincoln Day program will include presentation of the colors by the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, special music, and other ceremonial activities to honor the memory of Abraham Lincoln and his family. There are several new exhibits in the visitor center as well.

  • Benefit for Sherry Curtis Feb. 19 at the Tell City Moose Lodge

    TELL CITY – A benefit event for Sherry Casper Curtis will be held Friday, Feb. 19, at the Tell City Moose Lodge. Doors will open at 5 p.m. and a benefit auction will start at 5:30.

    Dixon & Dixon Auctioneers will donate their services. The cover charge for the evening will be $4.

    Music by Stan LaGrange and Kelly Clark will follow the auction. Drinks, food and desserts will be available.

    Sherry has been diagnosed with Stage 3 cancer in her throat and lymph nodes.

    VFW breakfast buffet Saturday

     

    TELL CITY – Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2939 will host a breakfast buffet from 7 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, at the post home.

    Meals will include scrambled eggs or be made to order.

    The cost is $7 (price includes tax). Carry-outs are available and the public is invited.

  • Ladies Lenten prayer coffee events begin Feb. 13

    PERRY COUNTY – The Ladies Lenten prayer coffees will begin Saturday, Feb. 13.  All coffees will be from 9 to 10 a.m.

    All women and children are welcome. There will be light refreshments served followed by a program.

    There will be an offering taken at each session. At the final session, those attending will determine which local charity will receive the offering. The full schedule is:

  • Indiana Hunter Education Class venue change and February session

    HUNTINGBURG – The Indiana Hunter Education course scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 23, will change venues. Due to the temporary closure of the Dubois County 4-H Fairgrounds, the class will now be held at Cedar Crest Elementary School. Check-in will start at 7:30 a.m. at the main entrance of Cedar Crest with classes being held in the cafeteria starting at 8 a.m.

  • Bluegrass concert series brings nationally acclaimed acts to Owensboro

    OWENSBORO, Ky. – The summertime bluegrass festival season is months away, while the music is already playing at the International Bluegrass Music Museum in Owensboro.

    The museum, recognized for preserving and celebrating bluegrass where it began nearby, is set to host a concert series with nationally acclaimed acts. The series begins this month and continues through May. Concerts benefit the museum’s educational outreach programs, artifact collection efforts and a video oral history project.

    Cancer support meeting Tuesday

     

    TELL CITY – A local cancer support group will meet from 6 to 7 p.m. every Tuesday in Fellowship Hall at the Evangelical United Church of Christ.

    Cancer survivors, cancer patients, family members and caregivers are welcome.

     

    Next Horseman’s club euchre game set for Jan. 30

     

    TELL CITY – The Southern Indiana Horseman’s Club will host euchre games throughout fall and winter.

  • Hoosier National Forest looking for photos

    TELL CITY – Grab a camera or smart phone and visit the Hoosier National Forest to capture a few great shots. The Forest Service is sponsoring a photo contest and everyone is a winner when they get outdoors and have fun taking pictures.

    There are several ways to submit your photos, you can share your best pictures with the hashtag, #capturetheforest, or you can email the photos to Stacy Duke at sduke@fs.fed.us.
