  • Rome Dogwood Festival April 27

    ROME – The Rome  Dogwood Festival will begin at 11 a.m. Sunday, April 27, at the old courthouse in Rome.

    Dinners of fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, bread, slaw, a homemade dessert and tea or lemonade will be available.

    A concession stand will also serve hamburgers, cheese-burgers, barbecue and sodas. The country store will have pies, cakes, bread, cookies and canned goods for sale.

  • Charlie Tuggle Ride set for April 26

    TELL CITY – Braunie’s Bar will host its seventh annual Charlie Tuggle Ride Saturday, April 26.

    All bikes will be out at 11 a.m. and in by 4:30 p.m. Fee is $15 for a single rider and $25 for double riders. All vehicles are welcome.

    There will be door prizes and food. All proceeds will benefit Shriners Childrens Hospital and Schreiber family Charities.

  • Tell City Chair Co. reunion May 4

    TELL CITY – Former Tell City Chair Co. employees will have the opportunity for the first time since the company closed to gather and discuss their recollections at the Tell City Chair Co.

    Chris Cail, reunion coordinator, said many of these employees have not seen each other since the company closed.

    “This is a great opportunity for them to meet up with old friends and talk about the good ol’ days,” said Cail. “The reunion will also serve to capture and record the history of the Tell City Chair Co.”

    ST. ANN SOCIETY OF ST. MICHAEL Catholic Church will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, April 21 in Father Marendt Hall at the church in Cannelton. Hostesses for the evening will be Carlena Jarboe, Pat McCleerey, Peggy Newton and Augusta Nugent. All women of the parish are invited and encouraged to attend.

    THE BRISTOW COMMUNITY CENTER offers euchre games at 6:30 p.m. every Wednesday.

    Women’s concealed-carry talk Tuesday

    TELL CITY – C & J Firearms Training Academy at 705 Jefferson St. in Tell City will host an hour-long DVD presentation by the Personal Defense Network starting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 15.
    A group discussion will follow the presentation.

    Topics will include myths and misconceptions of women’s personal defense with a firearm; recommendation for women’s self-defense firearms and defensive ammunition and practical concealment options for women.

  • Local Relay For Life teams schedule fundraisers

    TELL CITY – Local Relay For Life teams will hold several fundraisers throughout April and May to support Relay For Life. The teams invite the community to attend and help raise money for Relay For Life.

    • Dessert auction Thursday: The Lincoln Hills Relay For Life team, Pirates of the Cureibbean, will hold a dessert auction from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, April 17 in the Lincoln Conference Room at 302 Main St. in Tell City.

    Bidding will be open to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Winners will be announced at 2 p.m.

  • Open house planned at North Perry Head Start

    LEOPOLD – The Lincoln Hills Development Corp. North Perry Head Start is currently taking applications for enrollment for the 2014-15 school year.

    An open house will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, April 25. Children may be enrolled at this time or parents and guardians may visit and learn more about Head Start. The North Perry Head Start Center is located next to Perry Central in Leopold.

  • Orleans Dogwood Festival April 30

    ORLEANS – The Orleans Chamber of Commerce will hold their 46th Dogwood Festival from April 30 through May 3 at the Historic Congress Square in downtown Orleans.

    Several activities and food will be available, including carnival rides, games, children’s activities, an arts and crafts fair, a hometown parade, food, live entertainment and viewing of the dogwoods. Admission is free. This event is recognized in the April 2012 edition of Midwest Living Magazine as one of the top five flowering festivals.

  • Gospel Tabernacle bake sale Friday

    TELL CITY – Gospel Tabernacle Church will hold a bake sale beginning at 7 a.m. Friday, April 18 at Noble’s IGA in Tell City.

    Colored hard-boiled Easter eggs, cakes and pies will be available for purchase.

  • Farmers market workshop today

    TELL CITY – There will be a kickoff meeting and vendors workshop at 11:30 a.m. Monday for this year’s Tell City farmers market. The meeting will be held in the Tell City Depot, which will be the site for the 2014 market.

    The workshop is open to anyone interested in taking part in the farmers market. There will be a light lunch provided by the Perry County Convention and Visitors Bureau.
