    VFW breakfast Saturday
    TELL CITY – Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2939 will host a breakfast buffet from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 29, at the post home. Cost is $6.50 plus tax. The public is invited.

    Band Boosters auction May 3
    TELL CITY – Tell City Band Boosters will hold their annual silent and live auctions May 3 in the high school’s Red Apple Inn. The doors will open at 9 a.m. and silent-auction bidding will take place from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. A live auction will be held at 11 a.m.

  • Sommer Strong benefit April 12

    TELL CITY – Family and friends of Perry County resident Urban Sommer will hold a benefit in his honor Saturday, April 12 at the Indiana Realty and Auction Co. in Tell City.

    In January, Sommer was diagnosed with stage four, metastasized ocular melanoma of the liver.

    There is no cover charge for this event. Pre-purchased chicken dinners will be available for pickup at 11 a.m. and can also be delivered if requested. Drive-up dinners will be available starting at noon. A cornhole tourney will also start at noon. To enter, contact Carl Sommer at 719-7791.

    MU GAMMA CHAPTER OF BETA SIGMA PHI will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 27, at Evangelical United Church of Christ in Tell City. Hostesses will be Shirley Quick, Judy Roberts and Joyce Laflin.

    PERRY COUNTY MEMORIAL HOSPITAL AUXILIARY will hold its annual spring membership meeting and appreciation breakfast at 8:30 a.m. Friday, April 4, in the hospital cafeteria. The annual meeting will follow the breakfast and new officers will be installed.

  • Couch to 5K running program starts today

    TELL CITY – A running program called Couch to 5K is set to begin today at Everbody’s Fun and Fitness Center, 710 Fulton Street in Tell City.

    This program is intended to take novice runners and in seven-and-a-half weeks,  slowly work them up to completing the May 11 Mother’s Day 5K Fun Run.

  • Stepping Stones to host fun 2-mile run-walk

    LEOPOLD – Small Steps to Wellness, a new fun run-walk hosted by Stepping Stones Preschool, will be held Saturday, April 26.

    Organizers say they plan to make this an annual event that will directly benefit youth and their families in rural Perry County and invite the community to participate in this family-friendly event.

    Runners and walkers are welcome. All money raised will support the Small Steps to Wellness program with a portion being donated to the Perry Central High School baseball team.

    EUCC blood drive March 30
    TELL CITY – A blood drive sponsored by the American Red Cross will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, March 30, at the Evangelical United Church of Christ in the fellowship hall.
    Organizers say blood is in short supply due to harsh winter weather in the U.S. All blood types are needed and each donation can help save three lives.

  • Legion auxiliary to host bunco tourney, bake sale and annual Easter egg hunt

    CANNELTON – Cannelton American Legion Auxiliary Post 142 will sponsor a bunco tourney Thursday, March 27 at the post home on Knight Street in Cannelton.

    The doors will open at 5 p.m. and the tourney will begin at 6 p.m. Entry fee is $5. There will be free refreshments and prizes will be given for first-, second- and third-place and the overall lowest score. A door prize will also be given.

    The auxiliary post will also sponsor their annual Easter egg hunt Saturday, April, 19.

    DAUGHTERS OF ISABELLA will hold their monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 1 at the St. Paul Catholic Church parish hall. Members attending are asked to take a covered dish. The April committee will furnish desserts. Committee members are Barbara Ewing, Janean Fella, Maxine Flaherty, Susan Flamion and Sherry Fortwendel.

  • Benefit for Sarah Metcalf Saturday

    OWENSBORO, Ky. – A benefit for Sarah Metcalf, a Kentucky woman severely injured in an accident early this year near the Cannelton Locks and Dam, is planned for Saturday.

    The benefit will begin at 11 a.m. and continue to 4 p.m. at the American Legion post at 118 W. Veterans Blvd. in Owensboro.

    Sarah was involved in a one-vehicle accident Jan. 2 that claimed the lives of two other people and left her in critical condition with numerous life-threatening injuries.

  • Student art fair Tuesday

    TELL CITY – William Tell Elementary will host its second annual art fair from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Student artwork will be on display throughout the building for parents and members of the community to view and purchase. All artwork has been matted and framed and sale proceeds directly benefit the school.

    Local guest artists, art activities, face painting and refreshments will be available. Parents and guardians have been given the opportunity to pre-purchase their child’s artwork prior to the fair, which can be taken home the day of the event.
