  • Historical Society plays trivia Sunday

    TELL CITY – The Tell City Historical Society invites everyone to join them for Tell City trivia during their meeting at 6 p.m. Sunday, April 27.

    Resident Bill Simpson plans to challenge attendees with questions about things they weren’t aware they needed to know about Tell City.

  • VFW prepares for Buddy Poppy sales

    TELL CITY – Members of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2939 and its ladies auxiliary will sell buddy poppies from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, April 25 and Saturday, April 26 at Wal-Mart, Cash Saver and Noble’s IGA.

    According to post commander Kerry James, VFW bylaws require that the proceeds from the sale of buddy poppies must be used to benefit disabled veterans and veterans in need and to the surviving spouses and orphans of deceased veterans right here in the community.

    ST. ANN SOCIETY OF ST. MICHAEL Catholic Church will meet at 6 p.m. today in Father Marendt Hall at the church in Cannelton. Hostesses for the evening will be Carlena Jarboe, Pat McCleerey, Peggy Newton and Augusta Nugent. All women of the parish are invited and encouraged to attend.

    MU GAMMA CHAPTER OF BETA SIGMA PHI will meet Thursday, April 24 at the Patio restaurant in Tell City. Social hour will begin at 5:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 6 p.m. The chapter will celebrate Founders Day, and the special events committee will host.

  • Work planned for Indiana 66

    PERRY COUNTY – The Indiana Department of Transportation announced part of Indiana 66 will be closed in southern Perry County from April 28 until May 4.

    Crews will close the road from Indiana 166 to Indiana 237. Local traffic and emergency vehicles will have access to the point of closure, which will be from 166 to approximately 900 feet west of the intersection.

    The roadway is scheduled to re-open approximately May 4. The official detour will route traffic on Indiana 66, Indiana 70, Indiana 37 and Indiana 237.

  • Annual golf tourney set May 3

    TELL CITY – The annual Charlie Tuggle Memorial Golf Tournament has been scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. May 3 at the Hoosier Heights Country Club in Tell City.

    The three-person scramble will cost $60 per player or $180 per team. The entry fee will include one mulligan per player and a chance to win a set of Mizuno irons.

    Golfers can sign up by sending information and payment to P.O. Box 96, Tell City, IN 47586.

  • Dogwood tour coming this weekend

    PERRY COUNTY – Activities in several communities will mark Perry County’s annual Dogwood Tour Saturday and Sunday, April 26 and 27. A weaving demonstration at the Shuabael Little Pioneer Village is scheduled for Friday.

    Weekend events will include a Sunday chicken and dumpling dinner, bake sale and quilt raffle at St. Pius Church in Troy. Serving will begin at 11 a.m. Carryout dinners will also be available for purchase. For more information on St. Pius events, contact Jean Krutz at 719-8318.

  • Easter egg hunts and family activities set for Saturday

    • Oakwood Health Campus will host an Easter egg hunt. Ages birth to 3 will begin at 9:15 a.m.; ages 4 to 6 will begin at 9:30 a.m. and ages 7 to 10 will begin at 9:45 a.m. Contact Jennifer Coyle at 547- 2333 for more information.

    LEOPOLD – Perry Central Football Families will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 22 in the high-school study-hall room.

    William Tell Center supper, dance April 25
    TELL CITY – The William Tell Center at 1301 11th St. in Tell City will host a chili supper and dance Friday, April 25, at the center.

  • Rome Dogwood Festival April 27

    ROME – The Rome  Dogwood Festival will begin at 11 a.m. Sunday, April 27, at the old courthouse in Rome.

    Dinners of fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, bread, slaw, a homemade dessert and tea or lemonade will be available.

    A concession stand will also serve hamburgers, cheese-burgers, barbecue and sodas. The country store will have pies, cakes, bread, cookies and canned goods for sale.
