  • Local history group to take part in tribute to veteran

    OWENSBORO, Ky. – “Voices of Elmwood” researcher Leslie Byrne McCarty and members of Eli Huston Murray Chapter Daughters of the Union 1861-1865 will host a program Saturday, April 8, at 1 p.m. in the older section of Elmwood Cemetery on Old Hartford Road in Owensboro.

    This is at the gravesite  of Thruston Cabell, a prominent black citizen, who served his country as Private Cabell in Co. G 28th Regiment United States Colored Troops during the War Between the States will be saluted by various veterans’ organizations.

  • Good Friday event at Tell City Depot

    TELL CITY – St. Benedict’s Brew Works and Brick by Brick will sponsor an all-you-can-eat Good Friday buffet dinner Friday, April 14, at the Tell City Depot, located at 333 Seventh St. Serving will begin at 11 a.m. and will continue through 7 p.m.

    The menu will consist of gourmet salmon patties, tuna salad sandwiches,  cheesy potatoes, cole slaw, homemade bread and desserts from the bakery of St. Meinrad Archabbey. Craft beer will be available, as well as lemonade and tea. Cost is $9 per person or $5 for children 10 and younger.

  • Friends of the library book sale April 8

    TELL CITY – Friends of the Perry County Public Library will hold a National Library Week book sale at the Tell City branch, 2328 Tell St., on Saturday, April 8, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

  • Camp Koch staff reunites to celebrate camp’s 75th anniversary

    CANNELTON – Camp Koch, the beloved Girl Scout camp owned by Girl Scouts of Southwest Indiana located near Cannelton, is preparing to celebrate its 75th anniversary this summer.

    In celebration of the milestone, anyone who has served on the staff at Camp Koch is invited to a staff reunion July 14-16 at the camp.   

    Activities may include hiking to camp landmarks, swimming or kayaking in the lake, crafting, campfires and more. Guests are invited to stay for all or part of the weekend.

  • Tell City art show and related events April 10-14

    TELL CITY – The 13th annual Tell City Junior-Senior High School Art Show will be held this year on April 10-13, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. The show will also be open April 11, from 4 to 6 p.m. and April 14 from 3 to 6:30 p.m. The event will be held in the school library/Media Center.

    Some of the items that can be viewed are digital photography and graphic design work, pencil drawings, pastels, oil and acrylic paintings, watercolors, scratchboards, wood burnings, large scale paper mache’ sculptures, clay projects, and many other projects of various media.

  • PCMH Auxiliary Spring membership meeting April 7

    TELL CITY – The Perry County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary will have its annual Spring Membership and Breakfast meeting on Friday, April 7, in conference rooms A-E at the hospital. Organizers need guests to RSVP by April 1.

    This is to make sure the cooks will know how many people to prepare for.  Notify the auxiliary president, Patsy Alvey, by calling (812) 547-3629 or any auxiliary member. Guests can also call the gift shop at (812) 547-0155. The breakfast will begin at 8:30 a.m.

  • Southern Indiana wine trail will feature specialty drinks April 1-2

    PERRY COUNTY – The Hoosier Wine Trail has announced a March Madness promotion participating wineries are calling March Fabness, which coincides with the NCAA basketball tourney finals. The twist?

    It’s April 1 and 2 … April Fool’s!!

    Customers visiting each winery can sample a specialty wine drink blended to add fabness to the season. Drinks will range from sangria to wine slushies and cocktails. Throughout the year, those who visit all seven wineries receive a beautifully balanced wine glass bearing the Hoosier Wine Trail logo.

    TELL CITY – The Tell City Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting on Monday, March 27, at 6 p.m. in the Museum.

    The public is invited to join the membership for the meeting, program and social.

  • Rome VFD meeting April 3

    ROME – The Rome Volunteer Fire Department will hold its 26th annual meeting April 3, at 7 p.m. at the Rome Courthouse. There will be an election for three of the five directors.

    Nominations will be taken from the floor. Betty and Robert Whitehead have served as directors of the fire department for many years and will be retiring. Dues for 2017 may be paid at the annual meeting. Light refreshments will be served after the meeting.
