  • Next Parents’ night out event Feb. 13

    TELL CITY – Perry Childcare will host a parents night out Saturday, Feb. 13, from 6 p.m. to midnight.  Children ages 6 weeks to 12 years will be welcome.

    Those wishing to participate should make reservations within two days in advance and must fill out required paperwork.

  • Archabbey to host National Players Feb. 19-20

    SAINT MEINRAD – Saint Meinrad Archabbey will host the National Players, America’s longest-running classical touring company, as it presents plays on Feb. 19-20.

    On the first evening, actors will perform Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” A performance the following night will showcase “A Tale of Two Cities” by Charles Dickens.

     All performances are free and open to the public. They will be held at 7 p.m. Central time in St. Bede Theater on the Saint Meinrad campus.

    Benefit for Raymond Pfeifer Feb. 27

     

    LEOPOLD – A “beat cancer” benefit for Raymond Pfeifer will be held at the Leopold Conservation Clubhouse on Saturday, Feb. 27.

    Grilled pork chop or chicken dinners with creek fried potatoes with green beans at a cost of $8 per meal will be served, beginning 11 a.m. A silent auction will also start at 11 a.m. Live music, provided by Overdrive, Carl Sommers and Ryan Pfeifer, will take place from 8 p.m. to midnight.

    Fish fry dinners to be served at St. Michael

     

    CANNELTON – fish fry dinners will be served by members of St. Michael Catholic Church on the first 6 Fridays of Lent. There will be no dinners served on Good Friday, March 25.

    Meals will begin on Friday, Feb. 12, at 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. and continue on the next five Fridays. The meal will include fried fish fillets or cheese pizza, baked beans or mac and cheese, slaw, cornbread, dessert and drink. The price is $8 for adults and $5 for children, six and under.

    VFW breakfast buffet Saturday

     

    TELL CITY – Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2939 will host a breakfast buffet from 7 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 30 at the post home.

    Scrambled eggs or made to order. The cost is $7 (price includes tax). Carry-outs are available and the public is invited.

  • Krempp Gallery showcases Herald photographs

    JASPER – The Krempp Gallery at the Jasper Arts Center will present The Dubois County Herald for the month of February. The exhibition, titled “The Moment: Photojournalism of The Herald,” features award-winning photographs taken by The Herald’s nationally recognized photojournalists. The photographs, spanning 35 years, are captured moments that tell visual stories about local people and life.

  • Lt. Gov. Sue Ellspermann to be speaker at 2016 Lincoln Day program

    LINCOLN CITY – Lt. Gov. Sue Ellspermann will be the featured speaker at the annual Lincoln Day program on Sunday, Feb. 7.

    The program will begin at 2 p.m. CST and will be held in the Abraham Lincoln Hall of Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial in Lincoln City.

    The 2016 Lincoln Day program will include presentation of the colors by the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, special music, and other ceremonial activities to honor the memory of Abraham Lincoln and his family. There are several new exhibits in the visitor center as well.

  • Bluegrass concert series brings nationally acclaimed acts to Owensboro

    OWENSBORO, Ky. – The summertime bluegrass festival season is months away, while the music is already playing at the International Bluegrass Music Museum in Owensboro.

    The museum, recognized for preserving and celebrating bluegrass where it began nearby, is set to host a concert series with nationally acclaimed acts. The series begins this month and continues through May. Concerts benefit the museum’s educational outreach programs, artifact collection efforts and a video oral history project.
