  • Calligraphy workshop offered in May

    ST. MEINRAD – A five-day calligraphy workshop, titled “Deepening Your Art through Daily Practice I,” will be offered on May 1-5 at Saint Meinrad Archabbey in St. Meinrad.

    The workshop instructor will be Laurie Doctor, who has taught calligraphy on the university level for more than 25 years. She is an international exhibitor and instructor. Although this is a workshop concentrating on calligraphy, Laurie conducts her classes in a retreat-like atmosphere of reflective silence.

  • Astra to host The Way Down Wanderers

    JASPER – In what could be one of the final events at the historic Astra Theatre before it shuts down for a major face lift, nationally-touring artists The Way Down Wanderers will bring their unique harmony-laced brand of Americana, folk, and bluegrass to the Jim and Pat Thyen Performance Stage on Saturday, March 18.

    The box office will open at 5:30 p.m., doors at 6 p.m., opening act (to be announced later) at 7 p.m., and The Way Down Wanderers will take the stage at 8 p.m.

    Coon Club to host B & G Furs Saturday

     

    TELL CITY – The Perry County Coon Club will host B & G Furs at the club on Feb. 4, from 9 a.m. to noon or until the last customer is finished. Everyone is welcome.

    Free kidney education course set for Feb. 2

     

    TELL CITY – There will be a Free Kidney Smart Education class on Thursday, Feb. 2, at 12:30 to 2 p.m. at the Tell City Dialysis Center, 1602 Main St.

    The class is free and open to anyone that’s been diagnosed with kidney disease and family members are encouraged to attend with patient’s also.

    Sons of Legion to sell pork chop dinners

     

    TELL CITY – Tell City Sons of the American Legion Squadron 213 will sell pork chop dinners beginning at 11 a.m. Sunday, Super Bowl Feb. 5, at the post home.

    Dinners will include a pork chop, creek fries and baked beans. The cost will be $8 and dinners will be available for dine-in or carry-out.

     

    Boater safety course Feb. 13-15

    Perry Central boater safety course

     

    LEOPOLD – There will be a boater safety course offered at Perry Central School beginning Feb. 13, 14 and 15 at 6 p.m. each evening.

    The topics of discussion will be navigation rules and boating safety laws. A Certification Card can be obtained if all requirements are met.

    The class will be taught by Indiana Conservation officer Zac Howerton.  There is no charge. For those who would like to register for this class, call Dixie Dickerson at (812) 843-5122.

    Essential Oils class Jan. 25

     

    The Villas at Oakwood will host a class on the use of essential oils Wednesday, Jan. 25, at 5 p.m. at the Club House. Dinah Harpenau will teach how participants can use essential oils in their daily lives.

    This is a free class open to the community.

  • Relay for Life 2017 season beginning for Perry County

    PERRY COUNTY – American Cancer Society is calling on all community members to participate in the annual Relay For Life of Perry County, on June 17, at City Hall Park, Tell City. The Relay For Life movement is the world’s largest fundraising event to save lives from cancer. Uniting communities across the globe, the event celebrates people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and take action for lifesaving change.

  • Two-day ATV safety training course begins Jan. 17

    EVANSVILLE – A free two-day all-terrain vehicle safety training course, presented by multi-state 4-H safety coordinator Mike Klumpp, is available for local law enforcement, EMS, educators teaching grades 2 and up, Purdue Extension, Department of Natural Resources, youth groups, departments of health, Boy and Girl Scouts, Safe Kids coalitions, fire departments or state agencies.

  • EverBody’s to launch 15th Biggest Loser contest Jan. 11

    TELL CITY – EverBody’s Fun and Fitness will hold the 15th season of its Biggest Loser weight loss contest from January 11 to March 22.

    The deadline for registration is Jan. 4. The price for members is $20 for members and $145 for guests, which includes a 10 week membership.

    The contest includes many facets of the popular NBC show, including teams, coaches, weekly tips, accountability, motivation, weekly weigh-ins, last chance workouts and team workouts.
