  • Strassenfest accepting photos for baby contest through Wednesday

    JASPER – La Leche League is now accepting pictures for their annual baby photo contest during the Jasper Strassenfest. Photos will be accepted through Wednesday, July 30 or until all 96 entry spaces are filled.  

    Strassenfest baby-photo contestants should be individual or a sibling group between 0 and 36-months-old on July 1. All photographs will be returned.  

  • American Legion Operation Comfort Warriors rally Aug. 2

    PERRY COUNTY – American Legion posts in Spencer County will sponsor a benefit rally Saturday, Aug. 2, for the American Legion’s Operation Comfort Warriors program, which provides aid to wounded veterans.

    Jeeps and motorcycles can participate. The cost to register will be $15 and includes one free meal per entry.

    Additional meals will cost $10.

    Registration will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at St. Meinrad Legion Home Post 366 or call Sylvan May at (812) 719-8056 or send email to jillvanhoosier@yahoo.com to preregister.

  • Perry Central back-to-school cookout set for Aug. 5

    LEOPOLD – The annual Perry Central back-to-school cookout will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5 in the school cafetorium.

    The event will include school-readiness booths and activities hosted by school and community organizations and businesses, including bus rides for incoming preschoolers and tech support for a Skyward, a new family-school connection computer program.

    There will also be inflatables and entertainment by the Perry Central band and cheerleaders. Free hot dogs and soft drinks will be served.  

  • Silly Safaris live animals at Schweizer Fest

    TELL CITY – Tell City First Baptist Church is sponsoring the appearance of Silly Safaris at this year’s Schweizer Fest.

    The live-animal show is a blend of entertainment and information and provides over 3,000 conservation-themed animal shows each year throughout the U.S. The show will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, during Schweizer Fest on Main Street in Tell City. Silly Safaris is based in Indianapolis.

    K of C chicken dinners Saturday
    TELL CITY – The Knights of Columbus will have chicken dinners available beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 26, in the parking lot behind the K of C building.

    VFW breakfast buffet Saturday
    TELL CITY – Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2939 will have a breakfast buffet from 7 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the post home in Tell City. Price is $6.50 plus tax and everyone is welcome.

  • Open house Saturday to celebrate Bobbi Whitehead’s 90th birthday

    ROME – An open house 90th birthday celebration for Bobbi Whitehead will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, July 27, at the Rome United Methodist Church in Rome. All friends are welcome to attend and wish Bobbi a happy 90th birthday.

    THE BRISTOW COMMUNITY CENTER holds euchre games at 6:30 p.m. every Wednesday.

    THE WILLIAM TELL CENTER will host its weekly dance at 7 p.m. Saturday. Country Sunshine will perform. Cost is $5 and includes drinks and snacks. Line dancing is held every Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m.

    Card playing is held every Tuesday at 6 p.m. The public is invited to all events. Call 547-2714 for more information.

    Tennis clinics set at Vastwood Park today and Tuesday
    HAWESVILLE, Ky. – A tennis clinic for ages 10-18 will be held 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Vastwood Park July 21-22. Registration fee is $5. For more information, call Dan Hopkins at (812) 508-9700.

    Friend of library to meet Tuesday
    TELL CITY – The Friends of the Perry County Public Library will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, at the Tell City branch at 2328 Tell Street. Plans for the Aug. 9 book sale will be finalized during the meeting.

  • REUNIONS

    • The Oil Township High School classes of 1945-1947 will hold a class reunion at noon Saturday, July 26, at Bill and Dave’s Smokin’ Pit in Tell City.

    • Perry Central’s Class of 1994 will hold a 20-year reunion from 6 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, at the French Lick Hotel. Members should reserve space for dinner and entertainment. Cost is $45 per person.

  • Coming Events

    THE BRISTOW COMMUNITY CENTER filled seven tables during euchre games Wednesday. Leading the group was Elvis Zehr, who finished with 94 points. Vernie Harpenau took second place, scoring 92 points. In third place was Merl Gelarden with 90 points and Mike Elder finished fourth with 89 points. The center holds euchre games at 6:30 p.m. every Wednesday.
