  • Cornhole tournament Sept. 15 at Immaculate Conception picnic

    HAWESVILLE, Ky. – Immaculate Conception Catholic Church will hold its annual picnic Sept. 15.
    There will be a cornhole tournament beginning at 3 p.m. behind the old Hancock County Courthouse in Hawesville.
    Cash prizes will be awarded to first- , second- and third-place winners. The cost to participate is $30 per team. Everyone is invited to play.
    Those interested in competing should call (270) 927-6021 to pre-register to be ensured a place in the tournament. Leave a message with a name and number if there is no answer.

  • Retired archbishop of Strasbourg to lecture at Saint Meinrad

    ST. MEINRAD – Archbishop Joseph Doré, SS, retired archbishop of Strasbourg, France, will give the Dolle Lecture on Church Art and Architecture at Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology.
    His topic is “The Beautiful, the Cathedrals and the Christian Faith.” He will talk about the relationship between Christian art and faith.
    The lecture will begin at 7 p.m. Sept. 11 in the conference room on the fifth floor of St. Bede Hall, on the Saint Meinrad campus.

    St. Pius fall festival Sept. 9
    TROY – St. Pius Catholic Church in Troy will have its annual fall festival Sept. 9.
    The menu for the day will include the church’s “famous soup” by the bowl and gallon. Those wishing to purchase soup by the gallon are asked to take their own containers.

  • Wisdom Day Oct. 1 to feature Mark Ginter

    HUNTINGBURG – Theologian Mark Ginter Ph. D will be a featured speaker at the Jasper Deanery’s annual Wisdom Day Oct. 1 at the Huntingburg Event Center.
    Ginter and his wife, Diane, reside in Ferdinand and are the parents of seven children. He is president of St. Joseph’s Holy Family, Inc., an apostolate headquartered in Bristow, with the mission of renewing family life.
    He has taught at Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology; Sacred Heart School of Theology in Hales Corners, Wis., and John Paul the Great Catholic High School.

    Ice cream social at Deer Creek Baptist
    TELL CITY – Deer Creek Baptist Church in Tell City will host an ice cream social at 6 p.m. Sunday at the church.
    Sunday School will be held for all ages at 9:30 a.m. and morning worship will follow at 10:30 a.m. Sunday evening worship will be at 6 p.m.
    Other activities the church holds include Wednesday Bible study at 7 p.m. and youth and children’s activities Sunday and Wednesday. A quilting group also meets every Tuesday. All are invited to attend.

  • Two Saint Meinrad alumni honored as ‘Distinguished’ alumni

    SAINT MEINRAD – At the annual Saint Meinrad Alumni Reunion, Bernie Niehaus of Vincennes and the Rev. Donald Wolf of the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City were honored July 24 as winners of the Distinguished Alumnus Award.
    The reunion was held on the Saint Meinrad campus July 23-25.

  • Fun after Bible school

    Donnie and Pam Epple of Bandon held a summer gathering at their home this past Sunday.

    The couple welcomed everyone from Bethel Christian Church’s vacation Bible school, as well as other friends, to share a carry-in meal and enjoy a hayride and a barrel train ride, wrapping up the week of vacation Bible school.

    Eckerty Camp starts today, ends Aug. 12
    ECKERTY – The 104th annual Eckerty Camp begins at 7 p.m. EST today and will continue throughout Aug. 12. Services are at 7 p.m. each night and at 6 p.m. EST each Sunday.
    Christians of every faith are urged to attend this interdenominational campaign. The evangelist and singers for this year’s event are the Rev. and Mrs. M.R. McCrary. The missionaries of Evangelistic Faith Missions are Zack and Sarah Roberts.
