  • Local Christmas services scheduled

    Christmas Masses scheduled for county churches
    PERRY COUNTY – Times for Christmas Masses at three county churches have been scheduled for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
    St. Augustine Catholic Church in Leopold will have Mass at 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 24 and at 10:30 a.m. Christmas Day.
    Holy Cross Catholic Church in St. Croix will start Christmas Eve Mass at 6 p.m. and Christmas Day at 9 a.m.
    Finally, St. Marks Catholic Church in St. Marks will host Mass at 6 p.m. and again at midnight Dec. 24.

    Christmas program Sunday at Bethel Christian
    DOOLITTLE MILLS – The Bethel Christian Church in Doolittle Mills will present its annual Christmas program at 5 p.m. Sunday.
    This year’s play is titled “Why Christmas?” and some poems will be shared as part of the evening activities. Everyone is welcome to attend.
    The Bethel Christian Church has Sunday School each Sunday at 8:30 a.m. followed with church services at 9:30.
    Brother Tom Nixon of Mifflin is the church pastor. Everyone is invited to attend.

  • Christmas schedule at Saint Meinrad Archabbey Church set

    ST. MEINRAD – The public is welcome to join the Benedictine monks of Saint Meinrad Archabbey as they celebrate Christmas in the Archabbey Church.
    On Dec. 24, vigils will begin at 7 p.m. and Mass will be celebrated at 10 p.m.
    The Mass of Christmas Day will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m.
    Mass is celebrated each day in the Archabbey Church, at 7:30 a.m. Monday through Saturday and at 9:30 a.m. Sunday. However, during the Christmas season, Mass will begin at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 27 and Jan. 1.

  • Deer Creek Christmas activities Sunday

    TELL CITY – Deer Creek Baptist Church invites the public to Sunday Christmas activities at the church.
    At 10:30 a.m. the choir will present the Christmas message in music. The cantata is called, “And The Gift Goes On!” and will feature several soloists from the church.
    Michele Lynch will tell the Christmas story. Following the message in music, the Rev. Elmer Shelby will give his Christmas message to all.

    Liberty Church to begin services Sunday
    TELL CITY – The Liberty Church an-nounces its first service in the newly remodeled chapel, located at 435 Main St., in Tell City.
    The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. Entrance and parking will be in the rear of the building. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Sundays.
    Everyone is welcome and invited to help share in the service. Elder Ray Batie is the pastor.

  • St. John’s to hold blood drive Dec. 19

    EVANSTON – St John’s Lutheran Church in Evanston will host an American Red Cross Community Blood Drive from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday, Dec. 19 in the church fellowship hall.
    During the holidays, there is usually more demand for blood and fewer people take the time to donate. So consider giving blood to someone this Christmas season.
    The goal for the community is 25 blood donors. Those donating need to have identification or a Red Cross card.

    Chestnut Grove to host Jack Compton
    TELL CITY – Chestnut Grove Church in Tell City will host Evangelist Jack Compton (Gifts of the Spirit) of Riley, Miss.
    The community is invited to attend any of the four dates Compton will speak, Dec. 9, 10 and 11 at 7 p.m. and Dec. 12 at 6 p.m.

  • Celebration singers announce concert dates for December

    DUBOIS COUNTY – The Celebration Singers Community Choir will present three public concerts in Dubois County during December.
    The first concert will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5 in the recently remodeled Cabby O’Neill Gymnasium in Jasper. The program is being presented in connection with the community’s O’Tannenbaum Days Celebration.
    The choir will present the program again at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 11 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Haysville.

  • St. John’s bazaar set for Saturday

    NEW BOSTON – St. John’s Lutheran Church, one-half mile west of New Boston, will host a Christmas bazaar from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4 at the church.
    Items will include crafts, needlework, apple dumplings, homemade candies, baked goods, springerlies, jellies, produce and more.
    There will also be an early-bird breakfast consisting of sausage, gravy, biscuits, scrambled eggs and fried potatoes. Food will be ready at 7 a.m.
    Soups, sandwiches and pie will be available throughout the day. “Special” soup will be sold by the gallon.
