  • St. Meinrad monk receives Spiritus Liturgiae Award

    ST. MEINRAD –The Liturgical Institute has awarded its Spiritus Liturgiae Award to the Columba Kelly OSB, of Saint Meinrad Archabbey. The award recognizes distinguished service to the Catholic Church in promotion of the sacred liturgy.

    Kelly, a Benedictine monk and priest, studied sacred music in Rome, earning a Licentiate in Sacred Theology degree from Sant’ Anselmo in 1959. He then studied at the Pontifical Institute of Sacred Music, earning a doctorate in 1963.

  • St. John’s Lutheran to host VBS July 26-30

    EVANSTON – St. John’s Lutheran Church invites all area children to attend vacation Bible school from June 22 through June 26. The theme this year is Everest, where kids will discover what it means to hold on to God’s mighty power in everyday life.

    Kids will participate in memorable Bible-learning activities, sing cool songs, play teamwork-building games, dig into yummy treats, experience Bible adventures, collect Bible Memory Buddies and make fun crafts.

    Gospel Tabernacle to host week-long church camp

    CANNELTON – Gospel Tabernacle Church will host its 43rd annual Victory Valley Church Camp Sunday, July 26 through Friday, July 31.

    Camp meetings will open at 6:30 p.m. Sunday evening, with the Farmer Family Singers.

    Monday, Tuesday and Thursday meetings will begin at 7 p.m., with special guest speakers each night.

    The Wednesday service will begin at 6 p.m. and will include songs, skits, Bible-themed games and a hot dog roast.

    Tell City First Church of the Nazarene


    In Romans 8:28, Paul says God will cause all things to work together for good, for those who love him and are called by him. Notice Paul did not say everything was good. It isn’t. Some things in life are terrible, or to use a highly spiritual term, “they stink.” OK, maybe it isn’t a spiritual term, but it’s true. The key in this scripture is that God works all of our life, the good, the bad, and even the boring together for good. 

  • Weekend VBS set for July 24-26 at Tell City First Church of the Nazarene

    TELL CITY – The Tell City First Church of the Nazarene will host a weekend vacation Bible school, “Outback Rock – God is always with us,” from Friday, July 24 through Sunday, July 26, at the church, located at 17 Lausanne Ct. in Tell City.

    Bethel Baptist to host VBS July 20-24


    TELL  CITY – SonQuest Rainforest will be the theme for this year’s Vacation Bible School at Bethel Baptist Church, according to an announcement last week by the Rev. Ron Ammon.

    Bethel’s VBS will be conducted July 20 to 24 from 5 to 7 p.m. nightly for children ages 3 to 10 years old.

  • Organists to perform free concert July 19

    ST. MEINRAD – Four organists will present a free concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 19, CDT, at Saint Meinrad Archabbey Church in St. Meinrad.

    Presenting the program will be organists Raymond Henderson, director of music at Our Lady of Hope in Carle Place, N.Y.; the Rev. Edward Wagner, pastor and cantor at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Chesley, Ontario; Michael David of Evanston, Ill.; and George Hubbard, organist at Saint Meinrad Archabbey.

  • St. John’s UCC picnic July 18

    LAMAR – St. John’s United Church of Christ of Lamar (Clay City) will hold its annual summer picnic beginning at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, July 18, at the church.

    The meal will include fried chicken and baked ham, St. John’s “famous dressing,” summer vegetables, salad bar and homemade desserts. Carry out will be available and everyone is welcome. Guests 4 years old and younger will eat for free.

    The church is located at the corner of county roads 1350 and 550, 3 miles west of 245 in Lamar. Follow the signs.
