  • Monte Cassino pilgrimages to be held in October in St. Meinrad

    ST. MEINRAD – Saint Meinrad Archabbey’s pilgrimages to honor the Blessed Mother at the Monte Cassino Shrine have been scheduled for the Sundays in October.
    The pilgrimages begin with an opening hymn and a short sermon, followed by a rosary procession. The service ends with the Litany of the Blessed Virgin and a hymn. Speakers and topics for the pilgrimages are:
    Oct. 7, the Ref. Meinrad Brune, OSB, “Our Lady of the Table: Mary and the Eucharist”
    Oct. 14, the Rev. Adrian Burke, OSB, “Vatican II, Mary and the Church”

    Fun Day at Lilly Dale Church of Christ
    GATCHEL – The Lilly Dale Church, 14198 Old State Road 37 in Gatchel, will host a fun day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
    All are welcome to attend. The day will include games, inflatables, face painting, a hayride, tug-of-war, sack races and more. Free hot dogs, drinks and desserts will be served.

  • Holy Family picnic to be held Sept. 23

    JASPER – Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper will host its annual church picnic Sept. 23.
    Chicken or roast beef dinners will be served starting at 10:15 a.m. in the air condition dining room. Carry-out is available. Soup will also sold by the bowl or gallon along with sandwiches.
    There will also be quilts and bingo or pull-tab bingo in the fellowship hall with elevator access is available.
    A Texas Hold 'Em tourney with begin at 1 p.m., along with a mason jar stand filled with unique and useful items for home, office or school, organizers said.

    St. Meinrad church fall fest Sunday
    ST. MEINRAD – The St. Meinrad Catholic Church Fall Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the St. Meinrad Park and Recreation Field and the St. Meinrad Community Center.
    Live music will be provided by Shady Tree-O from 11 a.m. to noon and by Pink Sneekerz from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.

    St. Pius fall festival set for Sunday
    TROY – St. Pius Catholic Church in Troy will have its annual fall festival Sunday.
    The menu for the day will include the church’s “famous soup” by the bowl and gallon. Those wishing to purchase soup by the gallon are asked to take their own containers.
    Fried-chicken or roast-beef dinners, hamburgers, polish sausage, ice cream and homemade pie will also be served.

  • Financial Peace University coming in September at Troy UMC

    TROY – Area residents are invited to participate in the Financial Peace University to learn how to plan and budget their finances.
    Through video teaching by Dave Ramsey and class discussions, FPU presents practical steps to get participants from where they are to where they want to be with their money.
    According to organizers, this plan will show how to get rid of debt, manage money, spend and save wisely and much more.
    The average family who goes through the program pays off $5,300 in debt and saves $2,7000 in the first 90 days, organizers said.

  • Mount Zion to host homecoming Sept. 16

    SANTA CLAUS – Mount Zion Christian Church of Santa Claus will hold its 177th annual homecoming Sept. 16 at the church.
    The guest speaker for the 10 a.m. morning service will be Brother Jim D. Bowyer, Sr. Bowyer has been preaching the gospel of Christ for more than 40 years. He is a graduate of Louisville Bible College and Cincinnati Christian University.

  • Cornhole tournament Sept. 15 at Immaculate Conception picnic

    HAWESVILLE, Ky. – Immaculate Conception Catholic Church will hold its annual picnic Sept. 15.
    There will be a cornhole tournament beginning at 3 p.m. behind the old Hancock County Courthouse in Hawesville.
    Cash prizes will be awarded to first- , second- and third-place winners. The cost to participate is $30 per team. Everyone is invited to play.

  • Retired archbishop of Strasbourg to lecture at Saint Meinrad

    ST. MEINRAD – Archbishop Joseph Doré, SS, retired archbishop of Strasbourg, France, will give the Dolle Lecture on Church Art and Architecture at Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology.
    His topic is “The Beautiful, the Cathedrals and the Christian Faith.” He will talk about the relationship between Christian art and faith.
    The lecture will begin at 7 p.m. Sept. 11 in the conference room on the fifth floor of St. Bede Hall, on the Saint Meinrad campus.
