  • Christmas services

    Sisters of St. Benedict Christmas invitation
    FERDINAND – The Sisters of St. Benedict invite everyone to join them for their Christmas celebrations.
    Christmas Eve services at Monastery Immaculate Conception in Ferdinand will be held at 10 p.m. Dec. 24. A carol service will precede the Mass, beginning at 9:30 p.m.  Refreshments will be served in the monastery dining room immediately after Mass.
    Christmas morning Mass Dec. 25 will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. in the monastery church.

    Deer Creek Baptist to host Christmas program Sunday
    TELL CITY – Deer Creek Baptist Church will hold a  candlelight service and children’s Christmas program at 6 p.m. Sunday.
    The church’s Christmas service will be at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 23. There will also be Christmas caroling at 6 p.m. Dec. 23. “Silent Night, Holy Night” will be performed by the adult choir.
    All are invited to attend.
     The church is also continuing Beth Moore’s 10-week Bible study lead by Cheri Taylor at 6 p.m. Thursdays.

  • Upcoming events at the Church of Latter Day Saints

    TELL CITY – The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Relief Society for Women will have a Christmas social at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
    Anyone attending is asked to take a gift for the white-elephant draw. Dinner will be served.
    A branch Christmas social will also be held at 5 p.m. Dec. 15 at the church. The event will include dinner, caroling, a visit from Santa and a nativity scene.
    Everyone is welcome to attend both events. The church is located on Dauby Lane in Tell City behind the Perry County Courthouse.
     

  • Davis to receive 2012 Eli Lilly Lifetime Achievement Award from IHS

    INDIANAPOLIS– The Indiana Historical Society announces that Rev. Cyprian Davis of St. Meinrad Archabbey has been named a recipient of the 2012 Eli Lilly Lifetime Achievement Award. He received the award Dec. 3 during IHS’s annual Founders Day event at the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center, located at 450 W. Ohio St. in downtown Indianapolis.
    The Eli Lilly Lifetime Achievement Award is given to an individual who has made extraordinary contributions over an extended period of time to the field of history or the affairs of IHS.

    Bristow Christian Church lunch Saturday
    BRISTOW – The Bristow Christian Church will host a lunch at noon Saturday, followed by a showing of the movie, “Hiding Place.”
    Menu will include chili, hot dogs and desserts. Reservations are not required, but would help organizers will food preparation.
    RSVPs may be made by calling 547-9991. Everyone is welcome to attend.

  • Hawesville Baptist Church welcomes new pastor

    HAWESVILLE, Ky. – Hawesville Baptist Church welcomes the Rev. Barry E. Fields as the new church pastor.  
    Fields has spent the last five years in Buffalo, Ky., and began serving in Hawesville Nov. 18.  Everyone is invited to join the congregation each Sunday at 8:45 a.m. for Sunday School and at 10 a.m. for morning worship. The church is located at 290 Main Street in Hawesville.

    Gospel sing at Little Pigeon Saturday
    LAMAR – Little Pigeon Baptist Church, located two-tenths of a mile east of U.S. 231 on County Road 1250 N., will host a gospel sing Saturday at the church.
    Special guest singers will be Rejoicing Souls. Refreshments will be served at 6 p.m. and singing will begin at 7 p.m.
    All are welcome to attend.

  • Saint Meinrad Archabbey monk earns three awards

    SAINT MEINRAD – Father Cyprian Davis OSB, a monk of Saint Meinrad Archabbey, has been named the recipient of three honors.
    The National Black Catholic Congress gave its Lifetime Achievement Servant of Christ Award to Davis July 21, during its conference in Indianapolis. Also receiving the award were Beverly A. Carroll of Baltimore, Md., and Jacqueline Wilson of Washington, D.C.
    The Servant of Christ Award is a new award developed by the leadership of the congress to recognize those who personify Christian servant leadership in the African-American community.

    Special singers at Life Tabernacle Church Sunday
    TELL CITY – The Life Tabernacle United Pentecostal Church, 402 Ninth Street in Tell City, will host special guests Dave and Bonita Petersen from Indianapolis at 2 p.m. Sunday. Everyone is welcome to attend.

    EUCC Thanksgiving dinner

    TELL CITY – The Evangelical United Church of Christ will its annual Thanksgiving dinner from 11:30 to 1 p.m. Saturday in the fellowship hall.
    Donations will be accepted, but are not necessary to attend.

  • New Praise Service at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Evanston

    EVANSTON – St. John’s Lutheran Church in Evanston has announced the church will begin a new service open to the community.
    A dedication service will be held Nov. 18 at the church, 12308 E. County Road 1160 N., just west of New Boston off Indiana 545, with a reception to follow. This service is an informal, come-as-you-are praise service to be held at 5:30 p.m. every third Sunday of the month.
