  • Church sponsored 5-K, 10-K set for Sept. 21

    TELL CITY – Tell City’s First United Methodist Church will host its first Miles 4 Missions 5-kilometer and 10-kilometer run-walk Sept. 21 to raise money for the congregation’s mission work.
    The event will begin at 8 a.m. at the back parking lot at the church, located at 702 10th St.
    Cost is $20 and participants can register until 7:45 a.m. race day but must register by Friday to be guaranteed a T-shirt. Participants can pick up shirts from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 20 or on the morning of the race.

    Gospel sing at Little Pigeon Sept. 21
    LAMAR – Little Pigeon Baptist Church, located two-tenths of a mile east of U.S. 231 on County Road 1250 N., will host a gospel sing Sept. 21.
    Eating will begin at 6 p.m. and singing is set to start at 7.
    Guest singers will be New Heritage Quartet. All are welcome to attend.

    SANTA CLAUS – Mt. Zion Christian Church in Santa Claus would like to introduce Brother Richard Puryear as the congregation’s new minister. Puryear assumed the position this past June.

    St. Pius fall fest Sunday
    TROY – St. Pius Catholic Church in Troy will have its annual fall festival Sunday.
    On the menu will be the “famous soup” by the bowl and gallon, fried chicken or roast-beef dinners, hamburgers, polish sausage, ice cream and homemade pie. 
    Entertainment will include the Crosswinds band, a large yard sale, games for adults and children and a raffle. 
    Serving will begin at 11. Those purchasing carry-out soup are asked to take their own container.

    LEOPOLD — Winners of prizes of the St. Augustine Catholic Church picnic raffle were drawn recently.

  • Annual Holy Family Catholic Church picnic set for Sept. 22 in Jasper

    JASPER – Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper invites the public to the annual church picnic Sept. 22.
    Chicken and roast beef dinners will be served from 10:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the air-conditioned dining room, with carry-out and drive-thru service available. Mock turtle soup will be sold by the bowl or the gallon along with sandwiches.

    Free folk choir concert Sept. 13
    FERDINAND – The University of Notre Dame Folk Choir will perform at the monastery church of the Sisters of St. Benedict of Ferdinand at 8 p.m. EDT Sept. 13.
    This choir, with more than 60 members, has traveled the world and brought their repertoire to thousands of people. Each Sunday during the academic year they can be heard at mass in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart on Notre Dame’s campus.

    Deer Creek Baptist up coming events
    TELL CITY – Deer Creek Baptist Church’s youth group will travel to Holiday World Aug. 24 for the second annual Rock the World Christian music fest. This year’s headliner is Grammy-award and multi-GMA Dove award winner Switchfoot. Other acts will include Kutless, Audio Adrenaline and Indiana native Adam Cappa.
    The church’s Talk, Pray, Walk group meets every Thursday evening at Sunset Park in Tell City to walk the greenway. All are invited to join.
